What we’re about
35+ On The Town is a group for grown ups to have some fun, social times. We focus on dinner/drinks, festivals, excursions, game nights, movie nights, museums, crafting, tastings, read 'n' watch discussions, tea rooms, and fun stuff around town. Maybe a little nerdy stuff here and there. Our events are typically in Hillsborough or Pinellas counties, with ones in Pasco occasionally, and we try to spread the locations around, so the drive isn't burdensome for the same people repeatedly.
We are a no-drama group and expect people to be respectful and considerate of others. All backgrounds are welcome.
Please RSVP to events considerately. If you realize you can't attend, please change your RSVP with plenty of time, so those on the waitlist can join. Due to a lot of last minute drops and No Shows, we have changed our approach to posting our evening dinners and many other events. Dinners now will only be posted about a week in advance, and RSVPs will close the day prior to an event.
We do our best to remind people to make sure they're available and to let them know when they've made it off the waitlist and into the event, on top of the notifications the Meetup platform always sends. So, No Shows with no notification of an emergency will be removed from the group. Also, because we close RSVPs the day before most events, backouts on the same day as the event are considered No-Shows. Please just be responsible and considerate with your RSVPs. We give you plenty of notice.
We have a very fun, annual, holiday party with a white elephant gift exchange in Dec. Members who have attended at least 2 events during a given year will have priority in attending.
Just come, be yourself, respect others, and have fun.

There There is the debut novel by Cheyenne and Arapaho author Tommy Orange. Published in 2018, the book follows a large cast of Native Americans living in the Oakland, California area and contains several essays on Native American history and identity. The characters struggle with a wide array of challenges, ranging from depression and alcoholism, to unemployment, fetal alcohol syndrome, and the challenges of living with an "ambiguously nonwhite" ethnic identity in the United States. All of the characters unite at a community powwow and its attempted robbery.
The book explores the themes of Native peoples living in urban spaces (Urban Indians), and issues of ambivalence and complexity related to Natives' struggles with identity and authenticity. There There was favorably received, and was a finalist for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize. The book was also awarded a Gold Medal for First Fiction by the California Book Awards.
