What we’re about
All ages are welcome but this group's focus will be on ages 45 and up. The purpose of this group is to enjoy the great outdoors amongst our peers. Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties will be the location of many of our activities. There is no fee to join. Consider this group as a meeting of like-minded individuals who love the outdoors. Our walks will be easy, up to 4 miles. Our hikes will be more challenging moderate to advanced, between 4 and 15 miles. If you are a skilled walker, try a hike.
Transportation Note: Each participant is expected to drive to the hike location. Car pools are encouraged but my function will be arranging and leading the activity. I leave it to our members to work out any transportation issues.
This Meetup group is not affiliated with any organization. We are an independent group of friends and would-be friends who enjoy walking and hiking together.
NO SHOWS:
I understand that I MUST change my RSVP when I can no longer attend an event that I signed up for in the time frame required by the event host and if I accumulate up to 2 NO SHOWS (depending on situation) I will be removed and banned from 45+. I also understand that if I am a NO SHOW for a hike that is limited and has a waiting list I will be permanently removed from 45+. After 1 month of being banned or if there is a circumstance you think your organizers need to know, you may contact them and we may lift the ban with a promise that you will follow the above rules. Consideration for fellow members and event leaders is a requirement to belong to 45+.
All members must post an UP TO DATE PICTURE of themselves.
Your participation in any of our activities is your acknowledgment that you are solely responsible for your own assessment of your abilities and your physical fitness to participate in that activity. Walkers and hikers must be physically fit and by joining any event you agree to waive all rights and claims for damages against 45 Plus- Walks and Hikes in South Florida, it's Organizers and Assistant Organizers.
BY JOINING THIS GROUP YOU AGREE TO THE ABOVE TERMS

This trip has something for everyone. Pack your hiking shoes, fishing gear, mountain bike, and kayak equipment for this scenic camping trip. We will be camping at the Rodman Campground which sits along the 9,500 acre Rodman reservoir and also exploring Ravine Gardens State Park. the Rice Creek Conservation Area, and Salt Springs Recreational Area. For information on the park's history check out Rodman Campground - Florida State Parks.
The Rodman Reservoir is among the top 10 lakes for trophy bass in Florida. There are also many opportunities for birding and wildlife photography which may include eagle and manatee viewing at this time of year. The Florida National Scenic Trail(Florida Trail) also runs alongside and can be accessed from the park. Our camping location is 20 minutes from Ravine Gardens State Park which features a dramatic public garden and has two ravines up to 120 feet deep. The azaleas will be peaking at this time. While we are visiting the area we will also visit the Salt Springs Recreational Area, part of the Ocala National Forest where we will paddle the Salt Springs run.
There are two types of campsites you can reserve, primitive or traditional with electric and water hookups. Water is available at the entrance to the primitive campground. All sites are within walking distance of the two bathhouses. Of the traditional sites, 1 & 2 are closest to the restrooms. Sites 36 & 37 of the primitive are closest to the restrooms. Hammock camping is allowed on many of the sites. See the site details to confirm. You may need to resize and move the map to find the sites to book. Sites 1 - 13 and 40-68 are traditional sites and allow RV's or Tents. I recommend the primitive sites for a better experience if you plan on tent camping and do not need electricity.
Book your sites here: Rodman Campground Availability. This campground will sell out so make your plans early.
