Spring Creek Canyon Loop - Shiloh Road
You can follow apple maps directions to the Benner Spring State Fish hatchery.
Or - take the Shiloh Road exit off of I 99, follow the brown signs to Spring Creek Canyon - drive all the way to the end of Shiloh Road, park at last possible parking, on left, 1 mile after the exit.
This an easy to moderate hike, 3 miles long with 351 feet of elevation gain during the first half. The loop starts at the main parking lot at the end of Shiloh Road. We will walk through the woods to a hilltop and former orchard, walk over the top of the hill and down for a walk along the crushed gravel trail that borders Spring Creek.
For those interested, we'll go for a drink nearby after the hike.
State College is located in the Spring Creek watershed. A watershed is an area of land in which rainwaters flow into a particular water body. Spring Creek is a tributary of Bald Eagle Creek, which in turn flows into the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, which ultimately discharges its waters into Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
