What we’re about
The Appalachian Mountain Club is America's oldest conservation and recreation organization. The AMC promotes the protection, enjoyment and stewardship of the mountains, forests, waters and trails of the Appalachian region. The mission of AMC Maine is to encourage people to enjoy and appreciate the natural world because we believe that successful conservation depends on this experience.

In conjunction with the Maine Chapter Fall Fest & Annual Gathering, come join us for a morning paddle on Damariscotta Lake right from the shore at Camp Wavus. We will plan on using our 14' 5" kayaks so are open to canoes joining us as well. The pace will be leisurely as we head along the shore looking for wildlife. We ask that kayaks have at least one dry hatch for ease of rescues - which of course we would hope to not have to do. Let's plan on being out for about 2 hours or so. The water will be much cooler than in summer. We recommend a paddling jacket and/or a wetsuit. We will update this for participants as we get close and see what the water temperatures are. PFDs required to be worn at all times.Correct times and meeting location will be emailed after registration is complete.
Not open - FallFest & Annual Gathering - Trail Work at Bald Mountain PreserveNeeds location
Camden's Bald Mountain (one of several in Maine bearing the same name) offers a challenging but short hike that rewards with sweeping views of Penobscot Bay and the surrounding hills. Maine AMC is pleased to partner with Coastal Mountains Land Trust to give this popular trail some well deserved TLC. We'll work our way up the hill doing basic maintenance such clearing drainages and trimming branches, and possibly tackle some bigger jobs such as stair setting and water bar construction.
Bald Mountain Trail climbs approximately 700' over 1.3 miles and includes a few rock scrambles before reaching the open summit. Participants should be comfortable hiking this terrain while carrying tools or other materials needed for trail maintenance.
Space is limited so you must register to join us. Exact meeting time and location will be emailed to participants prior to the event. Please sign up here on our event page.
Not open - Acadia Fall Hike: Valley Peak LoopAcadia National Park, Acadia, ME
Join us for a Veterans Day fall hike that will take us to one of Acadia National Park's protected nesting areas of the peregrine falcons after they have left for the season. We will hike up Flying Mountain to the Valley Cove trail and onto Valley Peak where we will find lovely views over Fernald Cove and Somes Sound. We will descend to St. Sauveur Mountain to make a loop of our hike. This will be a slow/moderate paced hike of 4-6 miles with an elevation gain of 1,017 feet. The hike includes granite and manmade steps, open ledge, and forest floor with rocks and roots. One section of steep open ledge trail includes a steel cable handhold. A National Park Pass or Acadia Pass is required to park in the national park.
