The Austin Settlers of Catan Meetup

It's Independence Day weekend! Anyone up for more than 4 hours of board gaming? Woohoo, you got it--come join us starting at 12:30 at North Village (now John Gillum) library in Central Northwest Austin!

We are a friendly and inclusive group—everyone welcome! NEWBIES WELCOME--we will be happy to teach you to play.

A slightly earlier start time for this meetup means we'll have plenty of time to play at least two games each. We might even get in three if we start on time. It also means that we can have a table or two with heavier, more complex games that run long.

See the Comments section below for games I can bring--our members have also brought games like Mysterium, Ark Nova, Harmonies, Leviathan Wilds, Cascadia, Finspan, Camel Up, and Isle of Skye. Please comment in this event with any games you'd like to try!

We will meet at the North Village (now John Gillum) branch of the Austin Public Library, in NW Austin just off Steck and Burnet. Plenty of free parking. Walk in and look on the right-hand side, before the circulation desk, for the meeting room. We'll start at 12:30pm and play till the library closes (hard stop at 4:45). See you there!

PS: If you can't make it at 12:30, try showing up around 2ish, when the fastest gamers will be done with their first one and ready to start a second round.

It's Board Game Summer, and we have the third Saturday reserved for more than four hours of board gaming! So bring your friends and let's dig in. Your host has plenty of games (we'll always have Catan, but also everything from Azul to ... darn, I don't have a Z game, but how about Wingspan?). You're welcome to bring your own game(s) as well. Can you teach? Great! Play an old favorite, learn a new one.

P.S. Please, no food at the game tables—modern board games are expensive—so be sure to grab a bite before you arrive. Beverages in spill-proof containers are okay.

Looking for a comfortable, roomy place to play the heavy hitters? This meetup is reserved for games the likes of On Mars, John Company, Kanban EV, Pipeline, City of the Big Shoulders, Barrage, Eclipse, Food Chain Magnate, Root, Great Western Trail, Through the Ages, and so forth. In terms of BoardGameGeek.com ratings, we're looking at weights of 3.6 and up.

This is a bit of a departure for our group, so please respond in your RSVP with: heavy game(s) or genres you'd like to play; have you played it/them before? can you bring a game? can you teach it? NOTE: A request for those who want to play game X but haven't played before: please watch a how-to-play video and/or download and read the rules before attending.
