Badminton in Farnham

Welcome to Badminton in Farnham. We are a friendly, welcoming bunch of mixed standard badminton players who enjoy a game on a Friday night before retiring to the Shepherd & Flock pub to re-hydrate, discuss the funnier side of life and plan some social events outside of playing Badminton.

Our general standard is good to fair. In order for you and our existing players to have an enjoyable evening we ask that you have played before and are of a similar level and ability.

Everyone who wants to join us is asked to pay a one-off, non-refundable fee of £10. This goes towards the cost of block booking the courts several weeks in advance. Then, there is a £5.00 charge each week you play. You are welcome to try us out a couple of times before paying the membership fee. Just pay the £5 pay as you play cost. To try us, just apply to join the group and send us a message stating you wish to come along. One of us will contact you.

The main purpose of this group is to play badminton. As a member you will be welcome to join in any of the other social events listed, and we hope you do.

The format on a Friday evening is very relaxed. We play doubles usually having booked out 4 courts, you will play a game, sometimes mixed, sometimes not. Depending on the numbers attending, you may then have to sit out a game or two, or you may go straight into another game. We try to vary the players, so over the 2 hours, (8-10pm), you will get to play with and against several different members with a variety of standards and indeed styles.

We play to win, but smile throughout, shake hands after and most importantly, all go and have a drink together down the pub.

Note, due to meetup rules and costs, membership is limited to 50. So if we already have 50 members when you wish to join, you will be placed on a waiting list. Those existing members that do not attend badminton or do so very rarely will be invited to leave the group to allow new, keener members in. Please do not apply if you do not live locally.

SIMPLE JOINING RULES All new members need to be approved by the organisers. To join you will need to include a photograph and a small description. Please ensure the photograph is a clear one of yourself, ie a face shot to show your whole face, we have received some with heads chopped off, a close up of an eye and cartoons. A clear photo along with your correct first name will enable members to recognise you when you attend your first meeting and welcome you to the group. We are a social group, we ask you be social too upon joining. Many thanks.

IMPORTANT NOTICE Badminton in Farnham hope you will enjoy participating in any events it organises and that you will understand your own obligations in terms of health & safety whilst doing so, including parental and guardian responsibilities towards any minors who may accompany you. Badminton in particular has many associated health and well-being benefits, provided you remain safe doing so.

Members should ensure that they are physically capable of taking part in activities, and where appropriate have taken medical advice before participating. Members consent to treatment in the event of an emergency or other incident in which, in the reasonable judgment of the on-site personnel, they require medical care.

Members also consent to their photograph, images and any videos being used on the web-site or in any related publicity material.
