July 6 Danny Choriki “Enforcement, Economics, and the American Dream: A Critical Look at ICE and Fiscal Policy”
This presentation examines how recent ICE enforcement actions intersect with broader political and economic agendas, including proposed tax cuts and federal spending reductions. Drawing on historical context—from the war on drugs to systemic social control—it explores whether immigration enforcement is being leveraged to distract from policies that disproportionately impact the middle and working classes. With a focus on current events in cities like Los Angeles and Chicago, participants will consider how these developments shape public perception, community response, and democratic accountability.-----------------------------------

## July 13 Socrates Cafe: “They came for the immigrants and I did ___?”
A Socrates Café session is a lively, inclusive gathering where people from all walks of life come together to explore big philosophical questions. This month:
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
