What we’re about
The Sierra Club is America's oldest, largest, and most influential grassroots environmental organization. The mission of the Sierra Club is to Explore, Enjoy, and Protect the Planet. The Cape Fear Group of the Sierra Club serves members of Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover, Pender and Robeson Counties. You do not need to live in one of these counties to join our Meetup, and unless specifically noted, you do not need to be a Sierra Club member to attend one of our Meetups, events, and/or outings. We welcome anyone and everyone and would love to see you at one of our events!

Join us at our May 6 group meeting to discuss the deepening of the Cape Fear River. Kemp Burdette, Cape Fear River Keeper for the past 18 years and Erin Carey, Conservation Policy Director for the NC Sierra Club, will speak to us on the impact the deepening of the river will have on the surrounding environment and lead a discussion on how we can stop the dredging from moving forward. Further questions we will be asking: what has been the environmental impact of the last dredging; what are the incentives for the deepening; who besides the Port Authority is behind this project; who benefits most; and how do we expand the opposition to the project?
