What we’re about
Dear Elon friends of contemplation, meditation, and the practice of deeper learning and living at Elon, Our group is for Elon faculty, staff, and students to meet and enjoy each other's company and share contemplative practices, exercises, and experiences which matter to us. The nickname "Oaken Tokens" for our diverse and far-flung group occurred to me because, although a token is non-negotiable coin and without cash value, it allows access. A contemplative exercise, practice, or discipline will open gates and doors for new perspectives for encountering the world. Our contemplative tokens are "oaken" because "Elon" is the Hebrew word for "oak" and we make our tokens to access to deeper learning, greater awareness, and distinctive connection within the Elon community. If you share a meditative practice in your teaching, learning, work, and daily life, you belong.
