I’ll be charging £1 per person at every Meetup or alternatively, if you want to become a member, you can just pay a one-off annual subscription of £10. Why not come to a couple of events, just while you decide if our group is for you?

From our 3 widely-contrasting book choices, we had a tense and tightly-run vote, which resulted in:-
"Yellowface" by Rebecca F. Kuang, £2.99 and 326 pages, (Sandra and Kathy)
"When failed writer June Hayward witnesses her rival Athena Liu die in a freak accident, she sees her opportunity….and takes it. So what if it means stealing Athena’s final manuscript?
So what if it means ‘borrowing’ her identity?
And so what if the first lie is only the beginning….."Use this link to join:-

Here are the details of the "spare" book choices in case we want to go back to them another time:-
Suzie's suggestion:- "The Unretirement" by Penny Mirren, £2.99, 380 pp.
"Foodie Maggie Lawford has spent her retirement travelling the world. She’s home again – and ready for a new adventure.
When Maggie’s daughter, Hannah, takes her to their favourite restaurant, Maggie is heartbroken to find the place empty. But the last straw comes when Maggie hears the chef is at his wit’s end – she can’t resist charging into the kitchen and taking matters into her own hands.
Never one to give up without a fight, Maggie resolves to save their beloved restaurant from failure, and it’s not long before she has a military-grade plan to turn the place around again. Finding herself back at work, all she’ll need is support from Hannah and her cheeky granddaughter, Alice, as well as a little help from her neighbours.
After all, Maggie’s golden days aren’t behind her just yet…Vera's suggestion:- "The Island of Sea Women" by Lisa See, 99p,383 pp.
"Two best friends on a remote Korean island come from very different backgrounds. When they are old enough, they begin working in the sea with their village’s all-female diving collective. As the girls take up their positions as baby divers, they know they are beginning a life of excitement and responsibility but also danger.
The Island of Sea Women is an epic set over many decades, beginning during a period of Japanese colonialism in the 1930s and 1940s, followed by World War II, the Korean War and its aftermath, through the era of cell phones and wetsuits for the women divers. Throughout this time, the residents of Jeju find themselves caught between warring empires. Mi-ja is the daughter of a Japanese collaborator, and she will forever be marked by this association. Young-sook was born into a long line of haenyeo and will inherit her mother’s position leading the divers in their village.
This beautiful, thoughtful novel illuminates a world turned upside down, one where the women are in charge, engaging in dangerous physical work, and the men take care of the children."
