What we’re about
Here's our bucket list for planning. Have more ideas? Comment there!
Grand Junction Cyclepaths is for those who love to ride and enjoy riding with others. We do mountain biking and road biking at friendly levels. Unless otherwise stated in an event invitation, you can expect events to be no-drop events. Of course, it's up to you to make good choices about the level of the events you attend.
Everybody is welcome to suggest and host a meetup - just click the "Suggest a meetup" link and put in the details. Please make sure to give all the info people will need to understand the event and decide if it's right for them. Please review Suggestions for Event Hosts.
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Bike-Hike-Bike to the top of the Bookcliffs and Michelin ManCameo Shooting and Education Complex, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Palisade, CO
Let's try this again! Last time they were doing the wild horse roundup and we didn't get to go.
We'll ride up Coal Canyon (the one starting at Cameo, east of Palisade), a nice easy doubletrack out-and-back, for about 6 miles on easy climbing dirt road. Often we see the wild horses here.
Then we'll hide our bikes and walk up through a rough canyon to the top of the Bookcliffs. This may be only a mile, maybe it's two miles. So the hike is no more than 4 miles total. There's nothing technical, but some parts are steep, and there's a bunch of slickrock, so you definitely want walking/hiking shoes with good traction.
After we look over the top we'll hike back down to the bikes and ride back to the cars.
Exit I-70 at exit 45 (Cameo), the one where Kokopelli Farms is. Head north on the main road toward the shooting range. Cross the river, then just after you cross the railroad tracks, and just before crossing the canal, there's a wide dirt parking spot on the right. Park there and we'll start from there. (If you want a shorter ride you could go to the Main Canyon trailhead parking lot.)
The location shown by Meetup is not very accurate, but this pin should be perfect.
Don't forget your walking/hiking shoes! Bring some drinks or snacks or peanuts for after.
