- Contested Custody Issues in Divorce – Vesta's Lexington/Winchester, MA HubLink visible for attendees
Join our confidential event on navigating Massachusetts's law related to contested custody issues in separation and divorce, and what you need to know.
About this Event:
When parents separate or divorce, determining custody and parenting arrangements can be one of the most emotional and complicated parts of the process. In Massachusetts, custody decisions are centered on protecting the best interests of the child; however, when parents cannot agree, the path forward can become contested, stressful, and complicated by legal complexities.
In some cases, the court may appoint a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) to investigate and make recommendations about custody and parenting time.
Join our Lexington/ Winchester, MA Hub to begin understanding how custody is determined, the factors judges consider, and when a Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) may be involved. This is crucial for any parent facing a custody dispute.
Join us for this essential session, where we’ll cover:
- How custody is determined in Massachusetts, including the difference between legal and physical custody
- What the "best interests of the child" standard means in practice
- Key factors judges look at when evaluating contested custody cases
- The role of a Guardian ad Litem (GAL)—when they are appointed, what they do, and how their findings can impact your case
- How parenting plans are created and what happens when parents cannot reach an agreement
- The impact of temporary custody orders and the process for modifying existing orders
- Common mistakes to avoid when navigating a contested custody matter
- Resources and professionals who can support you through the process
Whether you are contemplating separation, in the midst of a custody dispute, or want to understand your rights and options better, this event will provide the information and insight you need to advocate for your children—and for yourself—with greater confidence and clarity.
Note: This session is based on Massachusetts law and is tailored for individuals navigating custody issues within the state.
