PRINCETON ACM / IEEE COMPUTER SOCIETY CHAPTERS
JANUARY, 2025 JOINT MEETING"Panel: Technology Outlook And Careers"
Panelists: Jeffery Lee Funk, Leonard Lee, and Debbie LevittThis month's meeting is a panel discussion. Our panelists will address the overall technology outlook - with a special emphasis on how it impacts job seekers, career choices, hiring/layoff dynamics, and the general shape of future of technology that we should expect. Our speakers have consulting experience throughout the business community - including startups, business strategy, customer experience - and they will share their advice about how that might affect how we position ourselves in the job market.
Our three panelists:
Jeffery Lee Funk is a retired professor and an author of five books. His 40-year career has focused on how new technologies emerge and diffuse as a professor and consultant. He advised several Western companies while working as a professor in Japan in the late 1990s and early 2000s in Japan, helping them implement strategies for the use of smart phones. As a professor at National University of Singapore in 2007, he taught a unique course on the economics of new technologies that helped him become an early critic of today’s startups and venture capital. His most recent book is "Unicorns, Hype and Bubbles: A guide to spotting, avoiding and exploiting investment bubbles in tech."
Leonard Lee is the founder and managing director of neXt Curve and is based in San Diego. With over 30 years of experience as a management/technology consultant and industry analyst, Leonard has advised leading enterprises across various industries on digital technologies, business strategy, and innovation. His expertise spans IT and business strategy, business and product innovation, emerging technology research, market intelligence, and business transformation. His company, neXt Curve, currently advises some of the leading firms across the technology, media, telecommunications, and industrial technology sectors on frontier priorities that are shaping the future of tech and industries. Leonard was previously a managing partner with Gartner Inc. and partner/principal at IBM, PricewaterhouseCooper, and Ernst & Young.
Debbie Levitt is Chief Experience Officer at Delta CX, a customer experience and user experience consulting firm. She has been involved in consulting for thirty years, helping companies with CX and UX strategy, research, information architecture, interaction design, prototyping, and testing. Her latest book, "Life After Tech," is about how to succeed in life after leaving the tech world.
