What we’re about

The great thing about a book club is you end up reading stuff you wouldn't have otherwise, and if it was a really great book (or UGH!, not even a very good one... ), it's cool to be able talk with folks that have read the same it too! So here's a book club for the Indiana side of the river... If you are already in a book club, it would not be unusual to discover you really do need another one!

Let's eat and talk about In a Glass Darkly by J. Sheridan Le Fanu. From Goodreads: This remarkable collection of stories, first published in 1872, includes Green Tea, The Familiar, Mr. Justice Harbottle, The Room in the Dragon Volant, and Carmilla. The five stories are purported to be cases by Dr. Hesselius, a 'metaphysical' doctor, who is willing to consider the ghosts both as real and as hallucinatory obsessions. The reader's doubtful anxiety mimics that of the protagonist, and each story thus creates that atmosphere of mystery which is the supernatural experience.
Something suitably spooky for Halloween and not too terribly long. Join us!
(There are a few editions out there. I have the Oxford World's Classics, but I don't think it's gonna matter too much.)
