What we’re about
Hello JMTr's and future JMTr's,
Ever since I got off the trail this year, I have missed it! and am so looking forward to next season.
I thought it would be great to have a group here in Northern California of JMT enthusiasts who want to keep the sense of community we felt on the trail alive and start getting ready for the next season. This will be a fun and casual group, as you would expect from JMTr's.
There are other hiking groups out there for sure, but they tend to cater to a wide range of tastes and hiking abilities, this group will be focused on those who venture into the High Sierras. So we will naturally gear towards more strenuous hikes. I envision keeping the hikes informal and easier during the winter months ( 5 to 10 miles 500 to 1500 elevation). Starting in early spring I see stepping up the frequency and difficulty, so that by time summer hits, we are ready to hike the JMT. For those who are not as familiar with the trail it is 211 miles long, with 47,000 feet of elevation, stretching from the Valley of Yosemite to the summit of Mt. Whitney. And more importantly the most amazing and all consuming natural beauty you will ever experience.
As most of you veterans know getting ready for the trail is just not about fitness. There are some in the group who have a desire to hike the JMT but never have. I want to provide opportunities to share information with those who will be first time on such an adventure. I would like to plan some eat/ drink and learns on subjects like permitting, food, equipment, itineraries and more.
With that in mind, the purpose of the group:
• Get ready for JMT 2020
• Have a VVR experiences during the year (Beer, Hikers, Food)
• Share knowledge and experience
• Start training earlier!
I look forward to meeting you!
