What we’re about

**THIS IS A GROUP FOR FEMALE IDENTIFIED PEOPLE WHO DO NOT HAVE KIDS AND DO NOT WANT THEM. Please respect this our rights to a safe space as childfree women. If you have teenage or adult children, or are male identified, this group is not for you.**

Ladies With No Babies Inclusivity Statement:

We welcome trans women, genderqueer and non-binary individuals who most closely identify as women. If you feel you would belong here, welcome!

Is everyone around you having kids, left and right? Are you just not ready, don't have the "mom gene", or for other circumstances live a child-free life? This group is for you! Let's enjoy what San Diego has to offer. We don't have to worry about babysitters or the judgmental "you don't have/want kids???" Looks!

This group will be as good as its fabulous members, so please suggest outings and let's do this! If you have any ideas, please contact Jodi and she'll be happy to make you an organizer. We have so many members, someone else will want to do what you're doing too!

This Meetup is currently free to join! However, contributions will be requested in May and November to help cover the fees charged by the Meetup platform.

**Please note - you must have a picture of yourself on your profile to be accepted into the group **

Theatre Night Out: Blues for an Alabama Sky at MOXIE

Theatre Night Out: Blues for an Alabama Sky at MOXIE

MOXIE Theatre, 6663 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, CA, US

Hi All!

I have several subscriptions to theatres around town, and I am committed to bringing groups to some of the upcoming shows as a way of increasing attendance for the venue as well as getting some culture in! These events are co-ed and cross posted, so feel free to bring whoever you'd care to.

I am hoping to do several of these over the next year, and I hope you're excited to join me! First up, Blues for an Alabama Sky at the Moxie Theatre. I'll post the description under all the rest of the important info.

NUMBERS: We'll need at least 12 people (since I already have a subscription) to qualify for a discount. If we have more than 20, we'll get a larger discount. Discounted prices will be $47 and $39, respectively. As mentioned above, you are welcome to bring partners, friends, or family who may enjoy the show. This show is not suitable for audiences under 12, due to the 2.5 hour run time. The topics covered may not be suitable for everyone, here is your content warning, from the theatre: Content & Sensitivity Advisory: The play touches upon topics of abortion, alcohol use, LGBTQ+ issues, and contains light sexual content. No foul language. There is use of haze and sudden loud sudden noises. As sensitivities vary from person to person, if you have specific questions regarding the content, please call us at (858) 598-7620.
Runtime: 2 and a half hours, including a 15 minute intermission.

RSVP COMMITMENT: Please keep your RSVP current, as I will buy tickets on 10/17. If you're on the RSVP list then, I will get you a ticket, and you will be expected to pay for it. If you can no longer attend after the date of purchase, it is up to you to find a replacement. I will also try to see if I can find another attendee to take your place, but I will not refund any costs if we cannot find another person.

PAYMENT: I will be making a group purchase on 10/17, and you can pay electronically via Venmo (@fourthmonth) or PayPal (fourthmonth@gmail.com) by 10/20. If I already know you and you would like to pay with cash or check on the day of the event, please reach out and let me know. I do not mark this as a "paid event" in Meetup, because I don't need them to take fees and thus charge you more. I'm trusting everyone to be good actors.

PRE/POST SHOW SOCIAL TIME: Since the timeline on this event is pretty tight, I won't be offering an organized dinner beforehand, however, there is a taco shop in the shopping center where the theatre is located, and I'll be there around 6.15. You're welcome to join me for a casual dinner. The show itself starts at 7PM. It's always nice to talk about the show with fellow attendees after it wraps, so we'll probably spend a little while chatting in the parking lot or sidewalk after we finish. Since the show will wrap around 9.30PM, I don't have a good suggestion for a walkable place to hang out after, but I'll see if the Moxie will leave the outdoor seating set up for us.

PARKING & ETC: The Moxie is located in a strip mall in the Rolando/College neighborhood with ample parking. There is also street parking available, and the MTS bus stops nearby. They are extremely casual, so there's no pressure to dress up. Come as you are!

STORY SYNOPSIS: A Drama About Dreams, Friendship, and Resilience
Set against the vibrant backdrop of Harlem in 1930, the play brings together a rich cast of characters who reflect the conflicting currents of the time through their overlapping personalities and politics. As the Harlem Renaissance starts to feel the bite of the Great Depression, Angel and her friends battle to keep their artistic dreams alive while invoking the image of African-American expatriate extraordinaire, Josephine Baker, as both muse and myth. And when you are a Black woman living through one of the hardest times in American history and filling the silence of social invisibility with laughter, friendship becomes the only way to keep reaching for your dreams.
