This hike begins at the same parking lot/trailhead as Arizona hot springs. The destination is the Colorado river. Once there, we'll hike up the rocks at the river's edge for some truly breathtaking river views. The hike down through White Rock Canyon itself is a fun, scenic, interesting journey through at times what becomes a narrow canyon with tall walls.
This hike is about 7.5 miles round trip, and elevation change isn't really an issue here, and there's nothing technical or dangerous about it, but there IS plenty of distance in soft terrain/gravel/sand, so you WILL get quite a cardio workout. It's not super easy, and honestly, not for a casual, out of shape hiker. But if you're a hiker is reasonably decent shape, you'll be ok. This won't be a race. When finished, you'll likely be feeling quite a sense of satisfaction from completing a great workout and from the amazing things we'll see!
Bring the usual hiking attire, shoes/boots plus hydration and snack/lunch. NOTE: If you have water shoes, bring those along as well. Although the plan is NOT to go through the Arizona hot springs (we'll return back through white rock canyon), we might check out the short section of canyon leading up to the hot springs that contains shallow water and a couple little waterfalls. OPTIONAL: If you want to bring appropriate swimwear and soak in the hot springs for a little while, we'll allow a little time for that.
There is a decent parking lot at the trailhead but if you've never been there, it is possible to zoom right past the turn-off/exit. So, I'd recommend we meet at Hoover Dam Lodge (the hotel/casino overlooking Lake Mead in Boulder City), and carpool/caravan from there. The trailhead is about five miles from there in AZ.
