New Date: 11th February 2024
Event Description:
We are thrilled to announce the Croydon Photography Forum's (CPF) relaunch, including an inspiring evening of photography and storytelling!
After a long pause following the COVID-19 lockdown and a successful virtual CPF series, we are excited to return to in-person meetings. Our first session of the year will take place on Tuesday, 11th Febuary, and we have an exceptional line-up to kick things off. This event will spotlight Hark1karan, a London-based community photographer and outsider artist whose work captures the heart of Punjabi culture, Sikh heritage, and the rich tapestry of London's DIY and community life.
About Hark1karan:
Hark1karan's practice is deeply influenced by his Sikh faith, Punjabi upbringing, and London's grassroots ethos. His photography reflects genuine care and closeness, collaborating with his communities to document their stories deeply and respectfully. His notable works include:
- PIND: A 2020 self-published book exploring life in his ancestral village, Bir Kalan.
- KISAAN: A 2022 self-published book documenting the Farmer's Protests of 2020-2021.
- Grass Roots: A photobook celebrating the Punjabi allotment community in Smethwick.
- Zimmers of Southall: A two-part mini-documentary and photography book examining Southall's culture and evolving landscape.
- A Portrait of Central Hill: A mini-documentary and photography project providing an intimate glimpse into the residents of Central Hill Estate, a community engaged in the #SaveCentralHill campaign for over a decade.
Join us for an evening of creative inspiration, insightful discussions, and the joy of reconnecting with fellow photography enthusiasts.
Whether you're a seasoned photographer or simply passionate about visual storytelling, this event promises to spark creativity and build community connections.
