NOTE: LOCA is welcoming and inclusive. Anyone identifying as a woman who loves women is welcome to LOCA events and LOCA Meetup events. LOCA does not discriminate. If you are an event organizer for the LOCA Meetup page, please be aware that any event that includes transphobic speakers or material or any other form of discrimination (such as exclusion from attending events or discussion groups) towards trans women, bisexual women, asexual women, and any others who identify as women who love women is not acceptable. Such postings will be deleted and LOCA Meetup members who continue to organize, post, and actively practice this kind of discrimination will be advised to use a different platform or risk losing the privilege of being a LOCA Meetup organizer.
LOCA is a social organization for lesbians "of a certain age" (loosely defined as 55 or older--you know who you are!) in the Portland metro area. Members get together for concerts, live music, theatre, film, dining out, board games, topic-focused discussion groups, hiking, kayaking, walking, and day trips organized by members as well as many other activities.
LOCA hosts a holiday party in December, a picnic in June or July, and a monthly potluck gathering. Come to the potlucks to find women your age to play, laugh, and eat with. At the potluck you can find out what's happening now, start your own group based on your interest, and maybe run into someone you haven't seen for a long time.
Joining Meetup is not the same thing as joining LOCA. Think of this Meetup page as the bulletin board outside the auditorium that is the LOCA group. It gives you an idea of what's going on but doesn't give you the full experience of what it means to be LOCA. Our aim is to foster community, which is difficult for women as we get older. Too many lesbians of our age are sitting home alone wishing there was a way to meet women like us and that we had someone to play with. Here it is!! Your big chance!! Come on out--of the house, that is!
LOCA has a mailing list of over 700 women who meet and mingle in different small- to medium-sized groups. ALL older lesbians are welcome to check us out. There are no membership dues, although when something is scheduled at the Q Center they ask that each attendee make a small donation for operating costs. Attendees at the potlucks are asked to bring a dish to share. Otherwise, the cost of the day is getting there and socializing. If you wish to make a contribution to LOCA, you can do so on the Meetup page and thanks!
