Join Metrotrails for a 10 mile urban evening/night LOOP hike where the group will walk from Elizabeth NJ heading south toward Rahway NJ utilizing NJTransit to make the hike into a "loop". Please meet promptly at 5:30 PM at the Rahway NJTransit Train Station. The group will be boarding the 5:50 PM train from Rahway Station and taking the train 11 minutes north to Elizabeth Station, where the hike will begin. There is street parking around many of the side streets near the Rahway Station (Fulton Street, W. Cherry Street, Esterbrook Ave, etc). The price for a one way ticket is $2.55 which can be purchased at the Rahway Train Station or using the NJTransit App.
Once the group arrives at Elizabeth Station, via train, we will walk west along Jersey Street / Jersey Ave toward Warinanco Park. We will walk through the park meandering our way to E. St Georges Ave (Route 27) continuing due west toward an abandoned rail spur that parallels E. Baltimore Ave.
Next, we walk south down E. Elizabeth Ave all the way to S. Stiles Street which will put us within the City of Linden. Once we reach Linden, we will walk Lower Road past a very apocalyptic looking tank farm and oil refinery property. This road is public and I've always wanted to walk it because it is very industrial and looks like a movie scene.
Once past the tank farm, Lower Road turns into E. Grand Ave, which is in the City of Rahway. Once on E. Grand the group will make our way back toward Rahway Station, where the hike will conclude.
This hike is almost entirely urban, except for a park section in the beginning. Be prepared to walk roads and sidewalks, so wear appropriate / comfortable footwear. I'm assuming there will be many places to stop for food / drinks if necessary, but it's always wise to carry what you need.
