TIMELESS CLASSIC • GOTHIC MASTERPIECE • INFLUENTIAL LITERARY WORK
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is a profound exploration of human ambition and the quest for knowledge, told through the tragic tale of Victor Frankenstein and his monstrous creation.
“Shelley’s novel is a spine-chilling work of psychological depth.” —The New York Times
“A remarkable novel that still resonates two centuries later.” —BBC
Victor Frankenstein’s experiment to create life from death results in a creature that, though initially innocent, is driven to despair and violence by the rejection of its creator and society. Shelley’s novel is a meditation on the dangers of playing God, the consequences of isolation, and the complex nature of humanity. Through the character of Frankenstein’s monster, Shelley asks us to consider who the true monster is—the creature, or the man who made him. This 1818 edition preserves the original text of this influential and haunting work of literature.
This edition of *Frankenstein* is notable because it presents the original 1818 text, which differs from the more commonly published 1831 edition. The 1818 version retains Mary Shelley's original intentions and themes, offering a raw and unaltered portrayal of Victor Frankenstein and his creation. This edition allows readers to experience the novel as it was first conceived, without the revisions and changes introduced in later editions. It's particularly valued by scholars and readers interested in Shelley's initial vision and the historical context of the novel.
