What we’re about
We hold meetings most Thursday evenings with a lecture and discussion. We also host frequent field trips for members to get out into Nature and learn more about this wonderful world we live in.
Members of Nature Vancouver have been working for more than 100 years to promote the enjoyment of nature, to educate ourselves and others about the natural world and to preserve and protect natural areas in the vicinity of Vancouver.

See all- Birding in Queen Elizabeth ParkNeeds location
Kelvin Yip and Neill Vanhinsberg will co-lead a bird walk for beginners around Queen Elizabeth Park checking duck ponds, wooded areas, and gardens. The walk will start at 8:30 AM and will last approximately 2 hours. This is an easy walk on mostly level ground with a few small hills. Trails are either paved or hard packed. If you have mobility issues, please let us know and we can cater the walk to your needs. There will be some binoculars to lend out if you don’t have a pair.
The emphasis will be on finding and identifying birds from a beginner’s perspective, then observing their behavior. Questions are encouraged! We will share some birding basics, and see what birds are around. You can check out the latest sightings at the park on ebird
This field trip is now full. To get on the waiting list, please email Kelvin Yip at kelvinyip.nv@gmail.com with the subject: “Nature Vancouver Bird Walk Oct 27”. A meetup RSVP will NOT register you for this walk nor put you on the waiting list (you must email Kelvin to register). Priority will be given to Nature Vancouver members (you can become a member by visiting https://naturevancouver.ca/.

The trail is not perfectly even but it’s between a 0-5% grade and is no steeper than a 1:12 slope. There is pay parking on the street nearby and free street parking in the neighbourhood close to our meeting location.Meeting Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ttk14Xc9B7aL7Xo1A

Inspired by Jon Young’s book, What a Robin Knows, we will be cultivating slow sense by going on a slow walk to watch and listen to birds. We will use our different senses to shift into a different frame of mind that pays attention to the natural world. We will be walking a trail along the beach and looping around to a section that is forested and adjacent to the ponds. During the session, we will engage in citizen science and submit our observations to eBird to contribute to a valuable set of scientific data.Target Birds:
Surf and White-winged Scoters, Common and Barrow’s Goldeneyes, all 3 merganser species, Bald Eagles, Great Blue Heron, Pacific Wren, Varied ThrushAdditional Information:
