O.C. Gay Men's Book Club

On July 16th Gay Men who identify as conservative, right of center, libertarian, or heterodox will gather to share alternative views and make a space for Gay thought crime. You may be born Gay but there’s a good chance you were not born on the political left. This is especially true for Gay Men growing up in Orange County (And pretty much anywhere in America outside of a few big cities). We are here to make it easy for Gay Men to find their people, regardless of politics.

For July we are reading “Troubled” by Rob Henderson. Join us if you would like to experience lively discussion and lovely company!

For the month of July we have selected “The Emperor of Gladness” by Ocean Vong

We meet at Urth Cafe, in the alley by the Starbucks. There is free parking on adjacent streets surrounding the Orange Circle. There is also a Parking Structure on Maple and Lemon. Every month, some group members come early to grab a brew at Provisions Cafe (143 N Glassell St.)

The reading material is a jumping off point to talk about gay life, your life, as theme and characters inspire your imagination. This is not English class. Find value in the readings in whatever what you choose.

Let’s get to the beach on August 2nd for some Southern California Sea Breezes, lovely company, and a toasty little bonfire. There’s no better way to make your summer fulfilled than to bond by the ocean!

We will meet at Bolsa Chica State Beach. I’ll be there in the morning to secure a bonfire pit. There is paid parking near the bonfire pits ($15+) and free parking starting on PCH and Warner near the Jack in the Box.

If you would like to, please bring something to share with your fellow bookclub gays. Here are some ideas: a snack of your choosing, sausages/hot dogs, buns, drinks, cups, napkins, condiments, a frisbee? 🥏 Foldable beach chairs, a table, ice, firewood.

This will be the first ever OC Gay Men’s Bookclub Bonfire! I’ll be arriving early in the day to secure a pit. Feel free to arrive early and keep me company (bring cold seedless grapes 🍇)
