What we’re about
We are a group of active men and women age 50 and older who are young at heart, enjoying an active healthy lifestyle, are fit (or want to be fit), friendly and having fun participating in recreational, athletic and social events with peers, including some community service projects.
We actively promote activities that defy the myths about getting older. We are the 'forever young' generation! Visit our OPALs website and sign up to receive our online newsletter. You can learn more about our founder Carolyn here. Some of the activities that we participate in include:
- Hiking
- Zip Lining
- Horseback Riding
- Bicycling
- Basketball
- Sailing
- Caving
As the Ambassador for the state of Georgia for the annual World Senior Games held in October, in St. George, Utah, I am looking for more athletes to participate.

See all- Virtual Documentary Night: A Prayer For Compassion [Voting Night]Link visible for attendees
**YOU MUST WATCH THE FILM ON YOUR OWN BEFORE THIS EVENT**
For this Virtual Documentary Night we have voted to talk about the documentary, A Prayer For Compassion. The film follows Thomas Jackson on a quest across America, that ultimately takes him to Morocco for the UN Climate Conference and throughout the Indian subcontinent to ask the questions, “Can compassion grow to include all beings? And can people who identify as religious or spiritual come to embrace the call to include all human and nonhuman beings in our circle of respect and caring and love?” Again, you must watch the film before attending this event. Here is a link to where you can watch the film for free.

This is a Voting Night, which means at the end of the night we brainstorm and vote to decide as a group what we will watch the following month, so please come ready with your recommendation. The only requirement is that the film must be available to watch online for free. If you need any ideas, you can search through the Flyers Page on the Community Documentary Night website. It is full of flyers based around certain themes and each flyer is full of documentary posters, which are hyperlinked to where you watch the films for free. Something to consider is that next month is November, which is Native American Heritage Month, and Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11th. Check out the Native American Heritage Month flyer, and the Veterans Day flyer if you're interested in recommending a film in honor of these holidays.
Again, you must watch the film on your own BEFORE the event. We will be meeting over Zoom, where we will break out into small discussion groups. We will do multiple rounds of small group discussion, then have a special guest Q&A, before closing out the night with a vote to decide what film we will watch the following month. The Zoom information is listed below.

Passcode: 861888This event is posted in multiple meetup groups, and on Eventbrite, as well as with members of the Community Documentary Night email list. (Message me if interested in joining the email list) Therefore, THIS RSVP LIST IS NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE ATTENDING THE EVENT. So even if you only see one person RSVPed in this meetup group, there will always be others in attendance from other groups. We tend to have at least 20 on average. By inviting numerous groups that increases the likelihood that those in attendance will be from varying backgrounds and beliefs. This is done purposefully to provide everyone with the opportunity to hear a wide range of perspectives.
This event is open to all who are open to all. The one thing we ask is that people allow others to get their full thought out and that any disagreement is voiced in a civil way. Check out the Community Documentary Night website for more info or links to previously shown documentaries.
Thank you and hope to see you there!

**YOU MUST WATCH THE FILM ON YOUR OWN BEFORE THE EVENT**
Link to the film is in the info below.
This event is a rescheduling of one hosted on Sunday, October 20th in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For that event we talked about the documentary, Forks Over Knives. We've decided to change the film for this event to one that expands on the information in the that film. Therefore, for this Special Virtual Documentary Night we are meeting to talk about the documentary, PlantPure Nation. This film follows three individuals as they go on a quest to demonstrate the health benefits of a purely plant-based diet. Dr. T. Colin Campbell (Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University, Author) and Nelson Campbell (Executive Producer, Director, Writer) will be joining us for a special guest Q&A!
