Do you like riding bikes? The desert? Friends and birthdays?
Do you like riding bikes in the desert celebrating a friends birthday?
I bet you do and I have the ride for youHey everyone, lets celebrate fellow RMCC'er Jason Kaminski's birthday by riding the classic White Rim through beautiful Canyonlands National Park. Of course Jason will be there and of course we're going to ride it in a day because well, riding the White Rim Road in a day is a bucket list adventure. Over the course of 100 miles, you will circle around the Island in the Sky mesa. Along the way, you will ride along cliff edges, past canyons carved out by the Colorado and Green Rivers, and to viewpoints that will take your breath away. Now's your chance to check this one off the list and have a great time in the desert with friends!
The details: Approximately 100 miles with 6800' gain
We're gonna meet Saturday, October 19th at 5:30 am in the lot at Hwy 313 and Mineral Bottom Rd.
6:00 am sharp roll out
We're riding the loop Counter Clockwise
This is a self supported ride!
You will be responsible for your own nutrition and hydration. There isnt't anywhere to resupply so do your homework to determine what you'll need to successfully complete the 100 mile loop. It's better to have too much than not enoughMore details:
A $6.00 day use permit is required on the White Rim
Each rider needs to have their own permit
The permit can be bought at the visitor center or on-line starting at 8 am the day before the ride
Permits can be bought hereWhat bike to ride?
The White Rim is moderately rough, but decently maintained. However it is sometimes very sandy in spots, loose dirt and rocky in others. A hardtail with fast rolling XC tires is my choice. Any MTB with fast rolling XC tires 2.2 or wider is great.Be sure your bike is maintained and reliable!
Top off your sealant (you should be tubeless) but carry a spare tube, plugs, patch kit and everything you need to fix a flat. It will also be a good idea to carry a spare quick link, a few chain links, the tool to fix a broken chain and a mini toolI think that covers it. If I missed something or you have a question please let me know
