What we’re about
This page covers the Missouri Ozarks and Springfield area outings and events!
This is a group for anyone who likes to get outside and enjoy nature-- you don't have to be a Sierra Club member! We will be organizing hikes, float trips, camping, and other outdoor adventures! All skill levels welcome!
The Sierra Club is America’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization, with more than 3.5 million members and supporters. In addition to protecting every person's right to get outdoors and access the healing power of nature, the Sierra Club works to promote clean energy, safeguard the health of our communities, protect wildlife, and preserve our remaining wild places through grassroots activism, public education, lobbying, and legal action. See all- Stream Sampling & Plant Walk at Shepherd of the Hills State ParkShepherd of the Hills State Park, Branson, MO
Join us for a spring event at Shepherd of the Hills State Park on April 19.
We will take part in stream sampling where teams can help collect and count aquatic macro invertebrates, such as snails and crayfish. Participants who want to get in the creek should wear waders or water shoes. Other team members can help from the shoreline. After a lunch break, we will collect plants for the park’s herbarium.
Bring your family and friends-- this event is for people of all ages.Shepherd of the Hills State Park is one of our newest state parks, purchased in 2016 and in progress towards opening to the public. Sierra Club members played a critical role in the protection of this state park through activism and advocacy. This event will give a sneak peek of the park, and we will be helping do important research to support the park's natural resources and get the park on its way towards opening soon!
Missouri public lands are vital for preserving the state's natural beauty, wildlife habitats, and diverse ecosystems. They provide residents and visitors with opportunities for outdoor recreation like hiking, fishing and camping, while also supporting conservation and environmental education. These lands play a key role in protecting water quality and promoting biodiversity.
