What we’re about
Do you want more purpose, discipline and structure to your snapping? Where do you go if you want to participate in a photographic project? What if you want more than just a "wander"? Camera clubs are great for those who like to compete and attend lectures. But Meetup groups are great for those who like to get out a take photographs with company. And we offer help and guidance to beginners.
Join the Southside Snappers. We aim to do some unusual photography from using 35mm film or infrared converted cameras to using pinhole photographic technology (admittedly it is unlikely anyone will wish to combine all three and use infrared film in a pinhole camera, but who knows?)
We aim to undertake projects that might take you out of your comfort zone, such as photographing helpful strangers, and projects that will help you to focus. Literally, as it happens, for one project will concentrate on shallow depth of field and "negative spaces" to create magazine double-page spreads. While these projects are for fun, they should also be serious enough that we would be happy to display the results. In other words, participants should be willing to work to a remit and challenge themselves.
Why the name? Quite simply, I live in Glasgow's Southside and imagine an annual project to feature in the Southside Fringe festival. But some projects may extend to an hour's drive radius of Glasgow.
