What we’re about
If you have social anxiety or shyness, but you love literature and would like to join a small, no-pressure MeetUp, THIS GROUP IS FOR YOU!
We will meet once a fortnight (or whenever you feel like you can make it) and just sit as a group, or perhaps in pairs or threes (whatever feels comfortable at the time), and have a casual chat about how we’re feeling and what we think about the literature.
Occasionally we’ll be looking at poetry, from time-to-time short stories, but more-often-than-not we’ll be reading a slightly longer novella (or short novel).
Please don’t worry, nobody will EVER be expected to read anything aloud or to say anything at all if they don’t feel like it.
The setting itself will always be very casual and the group will be held in a quiet, cosy room at the back of a larger community centre in the evenings, when nobody else is around.
You’re more than welcome to come and just listen to me or other people speaking, if you feel more comfortable that way. Whatever stage you’re at with reading or with anxiety or shyness, I assure you this is a safe and non-threatening environment.
Whenever you’re ready, it would be great to have you here!

Hi there!
Join us on Wednesday, 23rd July from 7pm to 9pm for this Once Upon a Pub event, and try your hand at some nature writing!
You're welcome to use this session to work on something you're already writing, but if you're just starting out, this will also be the perfect opportunity to develop things from scratch.
This session will be hosted by writer, facilitator, and nature lover, Shimrit Janes, who is also co-author of the book, Nature of Work: A new story of work for a living age.
We’ll explore how different authors have given voice to nature through their writing, from animals to trees to even the weather! You’ll then have a chance to try it yourself, with writing prompts to help you get started.
At a time when many of us are craving deeper nature connection, literature is one way in which we can nurture that relationship – even from a pub in London!
Whoever you are, we'd love you to come and join us.
When you arrive, please feel free to buy yourself a drink at the bar, then come and join us in the upstairs function room and say hello to some new, friendly faces before we begin.
***No experience of creative writing is necessary.
***No pressure to read your work in front of the group.
We've been hosting writing workshops, social events, retreats, and courses for 10+ years now and we strive to make our events inclusive, friendly, informative, and highly creative.
If you have any questions whatsoever, you're very welcome to text 07891948039 and we'll answer as soon as possible!
Otherwise, please RSVP, book the date in your diary, and join us for this exciting event.
Cheers!
