Kia ora Wellington Ebikers!
My name is Lulu, and I have recently joined up as co-organiser with Ryan, and we are keen to organise some events!
Over time we will be organising events to suit the needs of varying abilities, ranging from beginner - someone who is new to ebikes and still developing their confidence, to advanced bikers, where you will need to be a confident biker and self reliant.
We have an adventure coming up! Baring Head Lighthouse day trip. This trip is more suited to medium to advanced bikers. The trip will begin at the Queens Wharf ferry terminal that travels to Days Bay, and will finish at the Petone train station. Once at Days Bay we will make our way around the coast to Baring Head Lighthouse, turn inland from here and head for Petone via Wainuiomata. We will have a couple of stops along the way, including a lunch stop by the ocean, and for the winter ocean swimmers, don't forget your swimmers!
For this trip you will need:
- your own tire repair kit and have knowledge in changing a tire. We acknowledge that tire's are tricky buggers and often two humans are necessary to get the job done!
- appropriate protective clothing. We will make a weather call on Saturday morning at 7am, but you never know in good ol' Wellywood, so be prepared for all kinds.
- enough food and water for yourself for the entire day.
- a bike that can go off road, there will be shingle and sand tracks, def not for road only bikes!
- a medium level of fitness, unless you have two batteries you will be using solely your own muscle power for some of the trip.
- on that note, you need to have a good understanding of your bike battery and how to make it last. There are no charging spots along the coast and Wainuiomata is towards the end of our trip. You will want battery power for getting over that hill!
Meeting point: Wellington Ferry Terminal: 9.15am (ferry departs at 9.30am)
Estimated trip duration: 5/6 hours including stops
Return: Trains from Petone leave every half hour
How to spot us at the ferry terminal:
Theresa - metallic blue bike, yellow and black panniers, blue helmet
Lulu - black bike, dark blue and medium blue panniers, black helmet (see pic above)
If you can't make this one, keep an eye out for more. As the months get warmer the motivation for more escapades increases! There are some overnighters on the horizon as well!
See you then!
Lulu 😊
