What we’re about

Short novels can be an excellent introduction to authors. The reading commitment is not so great, and it's possible to dig deeper into the fine points of the text. In this group we will meet to discuss short novels of up to 200 pages or so, perhaps sometimes substituting a grouping of short stories.

The Dead is the concluding novella in Joyce's early collection Dubliners. It's an opportunity to appreciate Joyce's mastery of traditional literary form before his notorious turn to modernism. Let's meet to discuss our reading of this classic, which has been called "just about the finest short story in the English language".

Note that no food or drink other than water are allowed in this library meeting room.
