See all- Halloween in Old TownCapital Bikeshare Station, Alexandria, VA
Let's meet at the bike rack across the street from the King Street Metro Station and enjoy a Halloween walk in Old Town! Costumes are optional, but certainly welcome!
NB: There is a Capital Bikeshare on Cameron St, across the street from the King St Metro, but that's NOT where we are meeting! Come to the Capital Bikeshare on Diagonal St, GPS 38.805761, -77.060619
❶ What we'll do:
- From the bike rack we'll walk south and east through the Alexandria Cemetery to Wilkes St, which we'll follow east, with a detour south and east to check out the Halloween party along Lee St. At Duke St we'll turn east and head for the waterfront, and then walk north along the waterfront to Queen St, where we'll turn west and walk to N Fairfax St, turn left and walk south past the Carlyle House to King St, where we'll turn right and head back to our starting point.
- The walk is about 4.4 miles and should take no more than two hours. The surface is mostly paved throughout and fairly level.

From US-1 / Richmond Highway, follow King Street west 0.5 miles, take a sharp left onto Daingerfield, and the first right onto Diagonal Road. There is free and metered parallel parking in the area but leave yourself a little extra time to find it!
❸ Weather: It's too early to see the forecast, but we'll keep our fingers crossed. Sunset is at 6:08 pm, and civil twilight ends about 30 minutes later. Weather updates here: https://tinyurl.com/4wj5ya56

- Neabsco Creek Boardwalk + Road to Victory at Rippon LodgePotomac Heritage National Scenic Trail Neabsco Creek Boardwalk, Woodbridge, VA
Let's go for a hike at the Neabsco Creek Boardwalk and visit Rippon Lodge, one of the oldest known homes in Prince William County!
We always have fun seeing the wildlife on the Neabsco Creek Boardwalk, but this Saturday there is something extra: Rippon Lodge Historic Site is hosting "Road to Victory," a day full of colonial living history demonstrations focused on the Revolutionary War. Learn more about the formation of the Prince William County Independent Company of Cadets on November 11th, 1774. Meet civilian camp followers, enslaved soldiers, and indigenous scouts who were engaged in the March to Yorktown, enjoy making crafts, playing colonial era games, other living history activities, and more.
❶ What we'll do:
- From the Neabsco Creek Boardwalk parking area we'll hike south to the boardwalk entrance and follow the boardwalk to the south end overlook, with a diversion along the way to visit the overlook adjacent to Blackburn Road. From the south end overlook we'll continue south to make a loop on the Julie Metz Wetlands Trail, returning to the south end overlook, where we'll retrace our steps along the boardwalk to the parking area.
- The Neabsco Boardwalk hike is a modified loop of about 3 miles and should take a little over an hour at a moderate pace, with maybe some extra time for photography. (We won't be in a hurry.) The hike route is fairly level throughout and mostly paved or boardwalk; the Julie Metz Wetlands Trail is boardwalk and dirt paths.

- After the Neabsco Boardwalk hike, those wishing to visit the event at Rippon Lodge can either walk there or return to their cars, exit the parking lot, and drive across Blackburn Road along Admiral Black Drive to Rippon Lodge. There may be limited parking due to the Revolutionary War event.
❷ How to get there: From Interstate 95, take Exit 156 (78 E/Dale Boulevard) toward Rippon Landing. Follow Rippon Boulevard across Richmond Hwy/Route 1. Turn right onto Blackburn Road. Travel 1/4 mile and turn left at Admiral Black Drive to enter the parking area. See https://goo.gl/maps/sABrB7eKicxuGn1t8
