What we’re about
Hiking adventures await in and around the Sierra Nevada mountains! I might not know what I'm doing, I might not be in the best of shape and the entire trek may end in spectacular failure, but I'm going to have loads of fun in the process!
This group is about exploring the beauty of the mountains and maybe pushing ourselves to places we might not have thought we could reach. While many groups may have a more rigid and professional feel to them, this group is about being laid back and just enjoying the journey. Hikes will at most be at only a moderate pace and during long uphill stretches may be quite slow. The "Amateur" part of the group name lends more to this philosophy and not necessarily towards having "easy" hikes. Many of the hikes posted here will be quite challenging.
There are few restrictions here. If you want to attempt any hike you are free to do so regardless of experience. While I am happy to answer any questions and offer as much help as I can, I am far from a "professional" outdoorsman. Most of what I know I've learned from trial and error.
