Are you self aware and a fairly relaxed person? Do you know what motivates or inspires you? For me it's meeting up with and getting to know other people that have imaginative ideas and who share similar interests and values to our own. Internet dating sites and social media mean the opportunity to connect with people from a diverse range of backgrounds has never been easier. Yet it can be hard making new friends as we get older. More so if you are especially looking to meet like-minded individuals.

I'm aware that it's up to ourselves to make things happen in life though. So I decided to set up this group aimed at the over 50's to 60 somethings who might just want to connect socially and get out more. If you're a later generation baby boomer who watched the live Moon landings as a kid, remembers the birth of glam rock or the later disco, punk, and new romantic music movements, we're probably in the same ballpark age wise. Maybe you might also know the difference between Alias and Alas Smith and Jones? πŸ€”

How though do we know if we have much more in common with others? I think the short answer is no-one really does. At least until we get to know someone fairly well. We don't all like doing the same things do we? So, is there a particular interest you have that you are passionate about? What is it you really enjoy doing? Why not share your enthusiasm or knowledge, and enjoy real experiences with others who might be simpatico to you. We all have differing opinions which don't always agree with other people's, but I think this is a good thing sometimes too. I know myself that I don't have too much time for Tories, I doubt we would share many similar values and so would probably find we weren't very likely simpaticos. What?! I am just being honest and genuine and I also like to think I'm self aware. So what about you? That's what's interesting to me. What is it that you are like?

Like to chat? Good listener? Don't generally follow the crowd but instead prefer to make up your own mind about things? Naturally curious and know how asking questions often makes for good conversation? Who what why where when how? Is it true that?...whatever. Does this mean anything to you? If so I think we may be on similar wavelengths. Being happy in life is important and I think we all need space sometimes where we can just enjoy doing our own thing. I am no different in that respect. But I think most of us realise our most fondly remembered experiences will often have been when spending time together doing and sharing things with others.

Fancy a trip to the cinema to watch a movie the critics rate worth seeing? Enjoy going along to gigs and listening to live music? Like to travel and discover new places? Prefer more local undemanding shorter walks? Perhaps a day out at the races might interest you? Maybe you are into a number of things that you just generally like doing. I'm sure that most of us will share some ideas and mutual interests. Finding out which ones though and who we share them with is just half the fun.

Ask yourself if you prefer a simple get-together with just a few friends, or do you really enjoy mixing and connecting with much larger groups? Are you more at ease when chatting one-to-one? Early bird or night owl? We are all different so each to their own. I am happy and confident just being myself. I'm definitely not an extrovert but I usually find I mix and chat easily with most people. It's all about how we interact with one another though. Some people are fine in any situation while others may be more anxious and not feel entirely comfortable. Sometimes it can be good to explore new experiences that we're not familiar with. By getting involved I'm sure over time we will find events that we can all enjoy.

The group is free to join and you may attend your first event at no cost. However, attending any further events and wishing to remain a group member, will subsequently incur a one-off fee of Β£5 payable immediately. Ongoing annual membership is also Β£5 and is due on December 1st. It's not important, but just in case anyone was wondering? No, you don't need to speak, learn or understand the lingo, or even know a word of Spanish to join up! You're welcome. De nada! AdiΓ³s πŸ˜‰
