One of the most beloved and enduring genres in filmmaking is the road movie. It can be romantic, adventurous, exhilarating or contemplative. It allows for chance encounters, inspiring landscapes and for characters to travel to new places outside of themselves and within.

This beautifully written, elegiac road film, with screenplay by playwright Horton Foote, tells the story of a spirited, elderly woman living with her distracted son and difficult daughter-in-law and her efforts to visit, one last time, the small Texas village of her youth.
