The AMC, the Northeast's oldest outdoors club, gets people outdoors for hiking, backpacking, biking, trail maintenance and more. The club also focuses on conservation, outdoors education and camping/cabin accommodations.

Our Leaders
Our trained activity leaders are experienced outdoors people who volunteer their time and expertise. Their goal: to share fun, friendly and safe outdoors experiences. While safety is their primary concern, participants must also accept risk and responsibility for their own safety.

See all- Beginner Backpack ShakedownState Game Lands No 211, Halifax, PA
This is a low mileage backpack trip and will be good for beginners and more experienced hikers looking to shake out their new gear.
The location of this trip is on the AT within Saint Anthony’s Wilderness and State Game Lands 211.
Day 1: 4 miles along rocky terrain at a pace that should accommodate everyone; moderate elevation gain to be expected. For the beginners in the group, we will detail proper tent set-up, camp site selection, fire making technique, how to hang a bear bag and critter proof your gear. Campfire stories, and a s’more challenge may be included.Day 2: Break camp in the AM with a leisurely trek back to the trailhead. All things considered, we can expect to be back at the vehicles before noon.
Meeting location, basic gear list and additional details will be given to all registered participants. Maximum group size limited to 10.

We have only five more openings on this scenic paddle on the Mullica River in the heart of the New Jersey pine barrens.

Click the "REGISTER NOW" link to sign the on-line liability waiver and provide your contact information. After registering I will send you the link to pay for transporting yourself and your boat and for the rental if you need one. If you are bringing a guest, they need to register independently to sign the waiver for themselves. Here is a further description of the trip. Please read it.We will paddle from the Beaver Pond (Lock's Bridge) to Pleasant Mills. We will paddle past cedars, savanna grasses and bogs on our way. This trip is being run through an outfitter so that rentals will be available. The outfitter will bring us in to the put in and will pick us up at the end. Use your own canoe or kayak or rent one. The charge with a rental kayak and transportation will be $55. Rental canoes are $90 ($45 each paddler) and require previous experience with paddling a canoe. If you are bringing your own boat, the charge is $35 for a kayak or $55 for a canoe. There will be a group discount. Prices have slightly varied due to state tax and the $2 Wharton State Forest fee. A BYO kayak ended up being $37.60 with the group discount.
On the river, wearing your PFD is required. Inflatable PFD's and inflatable kayaks are not allowed. Dress in quick drying clothes or a swimsuit. No cotton please. Wear water shoes that can get wet and protect your feet. No flip-flops please.
Sorry, due to the put in location, there is no private shuttle option. You must register for this trip on Outdoor Connector to sign the AMC waiver and get further details. If you are bringing a guest, they must also sign up on Outdoor Connector on their own. Directions for payment will be sent to those who register. The outfitter will provide transportation to the put in and will pick us up at the take out. The group size is limited. There will be an optional post paddle gathering.

In order to comply with Pennsylvania Youth Protection Laws, all children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. This policy applies for all events offered by the Delaware Valley Chapter as well as any other chapter events within the state of Pennsylvania.
