What we’re about
This is a biweeklyish Meetup for non-serious people to discuss serious topics, or whatever comes up. We generally meet every other Saturday morning at 10:30 at coffee shops in the Milwaukee area, but schedule and location are always open for discussion.
We have a loosely themed discussion, where I or another member will come prepped with some conversation-starters, but the discussion goes where it goes.
This is largely a free-for-all, and I cannot promise order and structure, but there are some basic groundrules:
- Act and speak with basic goodness.
- Listen generously, and allow others time to speak. Hold space.
- No excessive promotion of individual beliefs. No one really knows anything, and we're doing this for funzies, so please stay humble and open-minded.

See all- "Philosophy" meetup- What is love? (Baby don't hurt me)Wantable Cafe, Milwaukee, WI
What is love? This question has plagued poets and philosophers since Plato and Ovid.
Join the discussion as we ponder why something that is so essential seems so elusive.
As always, no preparation is required, but here are some sources to consider:
Bell Hooks: All about Love
Erich Fromm: The Art of Loving (This podcast is a great intro: Philosophize This
Bertrand Russell: Marriage and Morals.
For fun, also consider looking into Ars Amatoria (The Art of Love) by Ovid for some insight into how ancient thought has - and maybe still does - influence popular thought.
