Welcome! Beat the Blues exists to provide nature hikes, campfire gatherings, weekend adventures, group travel, & other unique events for those who want to have new experiences and meet similar positive minded people doing the same.
I’m Michael. A few years back I found myself feeling isolated & trapped indoors during the pandemic while suffering the blow of a significant relationship end. Taking extreme accountability, I decided to take a hard look at myself and the direction of my life. I quickly became passionate about meditation, fitness, personal growth, and other wellness practices. As a result, I discovered the importance of nature for my wellbeing, as well as pushing the limits of my comfort zone. This has led to interests in primitive camping, backpacking, and traveling to serene locations all over the country.
My desire is to bring people together to live fearlessly and authentic. We will provide fun & adventurous activities that push self-limitations, promote mindfulness, and bring us in touch with our true selves in order to raise our vibe for the greatest good. So, if you're feeling apprehensive about joining us, rest assured you will meet a wonderful, welcoming group of diversified participants that will quickly make you feel right at home!
Please join our community initiative of beating the blues and raising inner wellness at our next event or message me with any questions you may have!

Heritage, Mineral Springs, Lake, and Forest Trail Loop: 233 Reviews, Map - Pennsylvania | AllTrailsBefore your first hike with us, please note the following:
Attendance: Do not reserve a spot if you aren't serious about attending! The event is limited to 40 in order to account for all hikers and respect the peace of the park. If you cannot attend due to unforeseen circumstances, release your reservation a day in advance so waitlisted participants can plan to come. No shows and last-minute cancellations are highly discouraged.
Meeting location: Raccoon Creek State Park Office Parking Lot. Please be on time. We will be hiking in all conditions unless notified in advance.
Regarding safety: 90% of the hike will be dirt/gravel/rocky forest trails. The trails are hilly and can be muddy. We may cross several streams. Hiking poles are highly recommended so that you do not fall. While this group cares for your safety, all participants hike at their own risk.
Regarding endurance: hikes last about 4 hours and stretch for 10 miles. Please take this pace into consideration before attending. Bring extra water. Bathroom facilities exist at the start & end point, with a porta john halfway.
Dogs: are allowed at Raccoon Creek State Park

- Vegan Brunch at The Zenith and River Walk AfterwardsThe Zenith, Pittsburgh, PA
I went to the Zenith on Saturday and talked with Elaine and Greg (owners) about our group and the recent cancellations. I left feeling assured that they are indeed now back up and running and will be for the foreseeable future. So, I'm willing to give it another try, if you are!
However, let's have a back-up diner to go to just in case so we can still get together, have breakfast and go for a walk - maybe in a different neighborhood. Ritter's or Deluca's or ?
Second order of business: As this is a small group, please, if you sign up, show up. If you must cancel, change your RSVP as soon as you know so someone else can take your place. Thank you.
Now -
If you’ve never eaten at The Zenith, you're missing out on a Pittsburgh treasure. The Zenith – Vegetarian restaurant and antique/vintage store (zenithpgh.com) https://www.facebook.com/zenithpgh
Run by the same family for many years, it’s a restaurant inside a vintage store, where everything is for sale and the delicious healthy all-you-can-eat vegan buffet will leave you stuffed but not feeling guilty. You get an entree, coffee or tea, plus the buffet (which includes a variety of home-made cakes) all for only $13 CASH.
Afterwards we'll walk to the Highline by 4th street then turn down to the river trail for the way back (about 3.5 miles total).
I’ve always found free street parking within a one block radius of the restaurant.
Meet up inside at the couches a little early so we can get on the list then all get seated together.
OK, see you there!
