What we’re about
Alaska holds their Iditarod Sled Dog Race every March. Many dogs die during the race, usually from choking on their vomit. These dogs are forced to race 100 miles a day, until they complete over 1000 miles to Nome Alaska, where the "mushers" learn the winner, who receives over $50K. The dogs who are too slow, exhausted or dead are pulled from the race, making it harder for the others to pull the heavy sled with supplies and the musher. When they are not racing, they are tethered to a stake, 24/7 in the ice with only enough room to run around in a circle. They may have a dilapidated, card board box for shelter. Alaska passed a law to exempt the race from their animal abuse laws. Many supporting companies have withdrawn their support, however, those in Alaska still do so to receive money from the race. We must join together to pressure Alaska to ban this deadly, horrific race, once and for all.
