What we’re about
Boardgame Monkeys is a meetup group for BOARDGAMERS and ROLEPLAYERS in Brussels.
All of our events are conducted in English. We are open to players of all skill levels, so whether you are an experienced gamer or just interested in finding more about the hobby, come and join us. Please note that this group is for people interested in modern boardgames and generally does not cater to players of traditional games such as Chess, Go etc.
BGM hosts two kinds of events:
- Join and Play!/No Work All Play!: Anybody can come and join a large group of gamers for a game. These sessions take place on the first, second and third Thursday of the month. Join the event and indicate in the comments what table you would like to join.
- Afterwork/Weekend Sessions: Individual game tables hosted by our event organisers any day of the week. Just join the event and you are good to go.
Once you are a member of the group, you are free to join either type of event. Please always RSVP before attending. Over time, you might become interested in hosting tables yourself. If that is the case, you might qualify for organizer status after a while.
If you have any questions about how anything in the group works, contact our Membership Manager, Gianluca. If you would like to a host table yourself, after having played a few times with us, please also get in touch with him and he can set up events for you.
Lastly, if you have any complaints or concern, get in touch with the BGM President, Toby.
You can find many of us on Discord here: https://discord.gg/qJVmUedU
Please note the following rules:
- We have more than 30 Event Organizers who are hosting regular tables to share their passion. Respect their time, energy and explanations. Be on time for your session!
- We bring our personal games with us or borrow one from a games library. If you damage a game or component during a session, please note that you are expected to pay on the spot the store price or Kickstarter price of the full game and take the damaged game home.
- We play at the Outpost Brussels (our main sponsor) and we expect that you will order drink and/or food to support them and us in return. It is only fair as you will play for free with our group.
- No-shows are frowned upon and may lead to your removal from the group if no adequate reason is provided. Especially for Afterwork Sessions, one person not showing up might spoil the game for everybody!
- Late-cancellations (= cancelling less than 24 hours before the event) can also lead to removal from the group if it occurs repeatedly, as it will often be hard to find a replacement at short notice.
- Please switch on "Who can contact you on Meetup - Anyone on Meetup/Member of my groups only" so that table hosts can contact you when necessary. This can be done in Settings -> Privacy.
Happy Gaming!

Our traditional "Join & Play" event is on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Thursdays of each month. As always, it's free to come & play with us.
How does it work ?
• The events are open for beginner to advanced gamers. If you're new here they're the perfect gateway to discover what we do!
• Those who want to host a game are asked to share in the comments below which game, & for how many players you can run your table.
• For others, if you see a game you'd like to join just respond to the host in the comments below and we'll reserve a spot for that game for you.
• Don't worry if you're new to boardgames or simply don't know the games being hosted this time around; you can simply show up and the event host will sort out a spot at a table for you! But please make sure to arrive by 19h30 at the latest so we can take the time to find you a suitable spot.
• The rules for the games will be explained by the table host before the game starts. No need to study them upfront, although several hosts post a video link to rules or background which can enhance your enjoyment of the game if you have the time to watch beforehand. This is never mandatory, however.

Barrage | Board Game | BoardGameGeek
In the dystopic 1930s, the Industrial Revolution pushed the exploitation of fossil-based resources to the limit, and now the only thing powerful enough to quench the thirst for power of the massive machines and of the unstoppable engineering progress is the unlimited hydroelectric energy provided by the rivers.
Barrage is a resource management strategic game in which players compete to build their majestic dams, raise them to increase their storing capacity, and deliver all the potential power through pressure tunnels connected to the energy turbines of their powerhouses.
Each player represents one of the four international companies who are gathering machinery, innovative patents and brilliant engineers to claim the best locations to collect and exploit the water of a contested Alpine region crossed by rivers.Barrage includes two innovative and challenging mechanisms. First, the players must carefully plan their actions and handle their machinery, since both their action tokens and resources are stored on a Construction Wheel and will only be available after a full turn of the wheel. The better you manage your wheel, the earlier your resources and actions come back to you.
Second, the water flow on the rivers depicted on the board is a shared and contested resource. Players have to intercept and store as much of the water as they can, build dams (upstream dams are expensive but can block part of the water before it reaches the downstream dams), raise the dams to increase their capacity, and build long tunnels to channel the water to their powerhouses. Water is never consumed — its flow is just used to produce energy —, it is instead released back to the rivers, so you have to strategically place your dams to recover the water diverted by you and the other players.Over five rounds, the players must fulfill power requirements represented by a common competitive power track and meet specific requests of personal contracts. At the same time, by placing a limited number of engineers, they attempt to enhance their machinery to acquire new and more efficient construction actions and to build and activate special unique-effect buildings to forward their own developing strategy.
