Welcome! We are a coffee shop bookstore located in SW Portland featuring great coffee and diverse books. We host readings and book launches on Friday and Saturday evenings, and children's storytime on Saturday mornings. Arrive early if you want to meet other readers and share about the book you’re reading. The background music switches to classical and the reading begins at 5:30 p.m.

Author and instructor Tom Spanbauer had a profound effect on many writers in the Portland area and beyond. Indeed, there are generations of Spanbauer writers who have gone on to publish, lead other writing groups, teach, and most importantly, continue the legacy of community and craft. Spanbauerian Steve Arndt leads the charge for this reading series, curating a selection of Spanbauer authors to read each quarter at BOLD Coffee & Books.

I Am We: How Crows Come Together to Survive is a riveting informational picture book that explores the beguiling mysteries of crow behavior.
Leslie Barnard Booth writes lyrical picture books about science and nature. She is the author of One Day This Tree Will Fall, a Kirkus Best Book of the Year, ALA-ALSC Notable Children’s Book, and winner of the International Literacy Association Book Award in Primary Nonfiction; A Stone Is a Story, a Bank Street Best Book of the Year, Crystal Kite Award Winner, and NSTA Outstanding Science Trade Book; and, most recently, I Am We: How Crows Come Together to Survive. Leslie grew up in Washington state, among giant trees and rugged mountains. She has taught at preschool, elementary, and college levels and holds an MFA in creative writing and an MS in education from the University of Oregon.
