See all- Book Launch for Author Margaret Pinard, Orla Rafferty Seeks Her FortuneBOLD Coffee & Books, Portland, OR
Author Margaret Pinard launches her latest historical novel, ORLA RAFFERTY SEEKS HER FORTUNE, at BOLD Coffee & Books on Saturday, January 11, 7:00 p.m. to celebrate the spirit of community and independence embodied by both! Her first Scottish drama since 2019, this book launches a new series featuring a widow’s political awakening in 1830s Glasgow.
Orla Rafferty may be unaware of the sweeping changes about to upend her world, but she’s on the brink of discovering them.
In 1833, the United Kingdom is anything but united. Political reforms are beginning to crack the foundations of a deeply unequal society, but true progress is still far off. When the income bequeathed from Orla’s dead husband is threatened, she’ll seize any chance to steady herself amid the upheaval-whether it’s educating herself, seeking advice from friends, or eavesdropping on dangerous conversations. However, when her actions land her in unexpected trouble, Orla must lean on both strangers and allies to forge a new path for herself.
A historical novel of quiet resilience and awakening independence, Orla Rafferty Seeks Her Fortune is a story of forged friendships, mended relationships, and the power of perseverance in the face of adversity.

- Reading by Erin Hall, Dear Sylvia, Love Jane, in conversation with Rene DenfeldBOLD Coffee & Books, Portland, OR
BOLD is thrilled to host the author of our number one bestselling book, Erin Hall, for an evening of queer noir stories and a conversation facilitated by author Rene Denfeld.
It’s 1943, San Francisco. And Molly Malone has secrets.
Between pretending to be the secretary of her own detective agency and late-night visits to her favorite gay club Whiskers (where a secret knock grants entry), Molly’s life is lived in the shadows.
But when distraught housewife Sylvia seeks help from a detective, Molly’s professional and personal life begin to merge.
When an up-and-coming politician reveals his plan to shutter gay clubs like Whiskers, Molly is concerned.
Then when bodies start appearing, Molly needs to act fast to save her friends and loved ones–old and new–from being the next victims.
Because Molly isn’t the only one with a secret.
Arrive at 6:30 p.m. to grab a snack or drink. The readings will start at 7 p.m.
