🌿 Marshland Loop: A Gentle Hike from Higham

📝 Walk Description
If you’re after a peaceful day out with wide open views and barely a hill in sight, this 15.5 km circular walk from Higham might be just what you’re looking for. Starting and ending near the quiet village, the route gently meanders through low-lying countryside, skimming the edge of the hauntingly beautiful Shorne Marshes.
This is a walk that feels miles away from the rush of modern life. The air is still, the skies are huge, and the paths are often empty — except for the odd dog walker or a curious heron wading in the reeds. You’ll follow tracks across old farmland and grazing marsh, with views stretching out across the Thames Estuary. On a clear day, you might even spot distant ships gliding silently along the water.
🧘 The route is flat all the way — no climbs, no tricky terrain — making it perfect for those who want a longer stretch without testing stamina. It’s ideal for beginner hikers, birdwatchers, or anyone craving a slower, more mindful pace.
Expect to see swans, egrets, and flocks of waders darting across the sky. There’s a timelessness to this landscape — as if not much has changed here in centuries.
🎒 Things to bring: the marsh paths can get squelchy after rain, so waterproof boots are a good shout. Shade is in short supply, so pack a sun hat and plenty of water on a hot day.
This is a walk that doesn’t try too hard to impress — and that’s exactly its charm. Just open skies, quiet paths, and nature doing its thing.

🌅 Twilight Trails: Bapchild to Lynsted Loop
🥾 A Quick Intro
Join us for a relaxed and sociable evening walk through Kent’s peaceful countryside. Starting from Bapchild Village Hall, this 6.34-mile circular route takes in blooming orchards, open farmland, and the historic charm of Lynsted and Rodmersham before looping back to Bapchild.
We’ll be walking at a relaxed pace with time to pause, chat, and take in the scenery. Suitable footwear is recommended, and a small torch can be handy during the darker months. This is a friendly, welcoming walk—ideal for regular walkers and newcomers alike.

🗺️ Route Highlights
We begin in the ancient village of Bapchild, once part of the Roman Watling Street. From the village hall, the route heads east into open countryside, quickly leaving the roadside behind as we enter Kent’s iconic apple orchards and farmland.
The trail leads us to Lynsted, one of Kent’s most picturesque villages, with its 13th-century church, flint cottages, and traditional green—an ideal spot to enjoy a little local history.
From there, we head north across peaceful countryside to Rodmersham, full of rural charm with its timber-framed houses and timeless village green. A perfect place to pause and take in the slower pace of village life.
The final stretch loops us back through soft meadows and more orchard-lined paths, arriving in Bapchild as the evening light begins to fade. A scenic and varied walk with a touch of history, nature, and local character.

3rd August - Bowness-on-Solway to Carlisle – 14.71 miles
4th August - Carlisle to Banks – 15.24 miles
5th August - Banks to Once Brewed – 12.97 miles
6th August - Once Brewed to Walwick – 13.5 miles
7th August - Walwick to Heddon – 16.8 miles
8th August - Heddon-on-the-Wall to Wallsend – 18.7 miles

Meal Breakdown
Day 1 - we will ask you to take your own lunch. There will be no food provided in Carlisle however there are plenty of options available in the city.
Day 2 - We will not be providing Breakfast or lunch on this day. We will be providing a cooked meal that evening.
Day 3 - We will provide Breakfast, A packed Lunch and an evening meal
Day 4 - We will provide Breakfast, A packed lunch and an evening meal
Day 5 - We will provide Breakfast, A packed lunch and an evening meal
Day 6 - We will provide Breakfast and a packed lunch.

Facilities
* Each stop will have varying facilities, but all contain toilet and washing facilities.
* When staying at a campsite you will be issued a 3 person Vango Helvellyn 300 (or similar) tent per person, unless you have stated you will be sharing with a partner/friend.
* When staying in a hotel you will be sharing a 2 person room of the same gender. If you have booked with a friend please let us know and we will ensure you are paired.
* When staying in the bunkhouse the rooms will be single sex rooms.

Optional Extras
On Day 1 (hotel) if you wish to have a sole occupancy room, there is an additional £60 single occupancy fee.
On day 2 there is an option of booking a shepherds hut for an additional £60 (sleeps 2). This will be booked at a first come-first served basis.
The Bunkhouse on day 5 offers an optional upgrade to a cooked breakfast. Details for this will be sent nearer the date of the trail.

CLIFFE TO KINGSDOWN
📍 A quick intro
On the 10th of August we will be strolling from the delightful village of St Margaret’s at Cliffe to spend a few pleasant hours soaking up 🌊 sea views.
The walk will start at 📌 Reach Road Car Park near St Margaret’s Church.
From the car park we will make our way through the village of St Margaret at Cliffe. We will then make our way along the coast 🧭 passing a former residence of 🎭 Noël Coward, a 🪖 Memorial to War Heroes of the First World War, and then onto Kingsdown with tales of 🏴‍☠️ smugglers, ⚓ shipwrecks, and 🏊 champion swimmers.
We will then make our way back to St Margaret’s at Cliffe via 🌿 country lanes and paths, hearing about tales of 👻 ghostly Grey Ladies and a 🍺🪿 beer-drinking goose!
