Our Communities
Boston Indies
Boston Indies is a community of independent game developers in Massachusetts supporting hobbyists, professionals, artists, academics, and anyone else interested in the craft of game creation.
Our goals are to:
• Foster a sense of community among Boston’s independent game creators.
• Encourage creating games independent of large budgets and major corporations.
• Serve as a brain trust among local independent developers and create a positive environment for learning and getting critical feedback
We are completely agnostic with respect to technology, development platform, game type, and scope of game development. As long as you show up with an open mind, helpful attitude, and you are committed to making your own games, on your own terms, you are welcome to join us.
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Boston Indies: Marketing Mixer PAX EditionAeronaut Brewing Company, Somerville, MA
Are you ready to do your best Billy Mays?!
For indies and fans alike, welcome to the second ever Marketing Mixer for indie games. This time it's a PAX East preview!Creating an awesome game is great and all, but it's the hype machine that moves units. Your marketing is just as critical! A key part of marketing is honing in on the language and materials used to promote the game. At this event, we hope to give games feedback about the words, images, and trailers created for promotion. Pitch it like your life depends on it!
Is your game upcoming? Great! Let's get you ready to tell the world.
Is it already released? That's fine! Tune that marketing and get some long tail.Do you not have a game? Show up and hear pitch after pitch after pitch for all your (now) favorite Boston indie games!
This time we're treating our lovely Aeronaut space like our own little convention center. Grab a drink and pretend real hard. Mill about and let our game developers woo you into checking out their game. Give them feedback on what is and isn't working. Maybe check out their trailer or demo and tell them why their pitch did or didn't work.To help us figure out who wants to show vs. who just wants to see games with their buds, please fill out a quick 1 - 4 question survey: https://forms.gle/X75JE7DSz4rj2ZTF7
Come on by, hear some pitches, and talk shop with other indies.
- Game Audio Boston with Jess Wallace (Technical Sound Designer)Link visible for attendees
For our April meetup, we're happy to host Jess Wallace, a technical sound designer with a fascinating career trajectory that went from working as a recording engineer in studios, to running a flower shop, to absolutely killing it in the indie games space and becoming a full-time sound designer.
Jess is part of Blipsounds, a prolific audio outsourcing company that has also made significant contributions to the game audio community at large through talks, presentations, and their free community sound library.
Titles Jess has worked on include Dead as Disco, Beyond Blue, Shogun Curse, and Hamster Scramble. We will be chatting about her way into the industry, what it takes to work in freelance and to stay flexible in your pro audio career, balancing audio and non-audio work, and, of course, answer any questions you might have!
