In order to insure the safety of all members of the group we require that everyone has learned the basics of kayaking, if you don't have the basics you can take a basic kayaking course at any outfitters. For safety reasons we do not accept paddle boards at any events.
The Branford Kayak Group is a bunch of people who kayak for the fun of it and thought it would be nice to share our ideas, discoveries of hidden niches along the Sound, up the rivers and journeys between the ponds and lakes of Connecticut and beyond! We are not outfitters or licensed instructors. In an effort to give everyone the most possible chances to paddle we will post as many events as possible. All skill levels are welcome to participate and all launch sites will be considered. Beginners are welcome but everyone will need their own kayak, paddle, and equipment (do not forget the life jacket!) some local outfitters rent kayaks if you need one you can check with us to see which ones may rent. Not all of us are paddling experts but some in the group may be, so feel free to ask questions. We are not outfitters and don't provide equipment or lessons, we also don't plan all aspects for any paddle, that is left up to the group. We have an annual $10 dues fee once a year due by the anniversary of your joining group to fund the expenses of running the group. Signing up for an event means that you have read, understand, and agree to the Disclaimer. We hope to see you all out on the water and look forward to a summer of warm days and flat water with the occasional waves to surf.
