What we’re about
We are a regular Meetup group for software developers in Cambridge who care about and take pride in what they do, how they do it, and what effect their work has on society.
Take a moment to read the Software Craftsmanship Manifesto that underpins our commitment to quality in software engineering.
Software Crafters Cambridge operates the Berlin Code of Conduct to ensure a friendly and welcoming environment for all, regardless of ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, lifestyle, technology choices, career choices, or indeed any form of "othering" not listed here.
We want to curate a program of events that meet the needs and interests of our members. Please take a moment to complete this short anonymous form to tell us your preferences. You can also contact Natalie Gray at natalie.gray@codurance.com to discuss any aspect of the community - topics, themes, speaking, hosting etc.
We hope to meet you soon!

What are coderetreats?
Coderetreats are free day-long, intensive practice events, focusing on the fundamentals of software development and design. By providing developers the opportunity to take part in focused practice, away from the pressures of "getting things done", the coderetreat format has proven itself to be a highly effective means of learning and nurturing software development skills.
All over the world, people are coming together in small communities of practices to learn, explore and grow. Join us on the Global Day of Coderetreat on Nov 09, 2024 or discover local communities around you!

- Code Refactoring DojoThe Bradfield Centre, Cambridge
Description
This month we're hosting a refactoring-based Coding Dojo! Join us for an evening of coding, food and drinks. Come and code along, share ideas, discuss best practices and learn from your follow Software Crafters! What’s the format?
We’re going to start with a presentation, diving into some methods we can use to refactor our code, and generally keep it clean. After the presentation, we’ll get into groups/pairs or work solo, whatever people feel most comfortable with, and start working on a code refactoring challenge.
You choose how you want to work and what language you want to code in (for this challenge we have a limit of what languages are available, but it’s quite large so it’s unlikely your choice won’t be covered). This session is about collaborating with others, becoming a better developer and building your network, in a fun, relaxed environment.
We'll be sharing ideas, discussing best practices and using this as an opportunity to learn from our fellow coders.
Food and Drinks
Pizza and drinks will be provided upon arrival sponsored by Codurance with vegetarian and vegan options available.Want to bring a friend? Great! Just ask them to RSVP so we know they are coming.
We want to hear from YOU!
The community is for you so please complete this short anonymous form to tell us what you want to get out of the group in 2024 so we can curate events that meet your interests and preferences.
