What we’re about

Welcome to CARPE DIEM - Cycling Adventures Meet Up!
(This is the formar Den Haag Cycling MeetUp which I took over from Susan since August 2024)

This is a Meet Up group for cycling lovers, fans and enthousiasts, interrested in guided cycling tours in nature or cities, combined with other events eventually, like museum visit, kayak, hiking, and any other activities to socialize, have fun and connect in small (no massive) groups around the -+ 6 to 20 people. I will organize tours mostly around The Hague/Rotterdam/Gouda/Utrecht/Amsterdam, but also further away in the country ;-)
The events are created and organized with a lot of care, creativity and details, to provide a good experience.

Attendees, practically all singles, tend to come from all different parts of the country and beyond the borders. The groups are international and usually varied in ages as well as in backgrounds with a mix of people from all nationalities: expats/internationals, immigrants/refugees or tourists and Dutchies as well. Usually there is a nice mix of regular attendees as well as new people coming for the first time.

You can bring 1 guest by signing up +1, as long as you (friends or couple) both integrate in the group.

Whether you are a beginner or born a cyclist, you are always welcome. We generally cycle at leisure speed around the 15 to 18 km an hour.

Looking forward to exploring nature by bike with like-minded people and meet other enthusiastic ones. It is a pleasure showing you around in my country!
Let's enjoy cycling and have nice adventures together!

Terms & Conditions + Meet Up event fee:
Carpe Diem is an amateur activity group based on volunteering, participating is at your own risk. The event fees (to be paid in advance directly when signing up) for most events (guided hikes and cycling trips) are from a small contribution of Eur 5,- to to 15,- per person a day as a tip for excursions, weekends and trips. This is to cover Meet Up platform membership, fees and organizer expenses, as well as costs on books, maps and Komoot app, memberships of different hiking & cycling websites and magazines used for hiking ideas, the guided walks and cyclings, the route (sent by Whatsapp prior to the hike or ride), administration costs and the time + all the work and effort spent on the research, investigation, planning, organization and execution of all the events and trips.
Signing up means you are committed to come and pay the bill by tickie directly, and NOT to show interest, reserve a spot or take an option and sign out later or at the moment of payment. There is no refund, except for full trips and weekend when there is someone substituting you, and otherwise only the food part + Meet Up & administration fee (from Eur 5 to 25,- depending on the event), which still will be charged.
A kind request to sign up as soon as possible for events, preferably at least 4 to 2 weeks in advance. I am keeping that day free for an event, and it is important for me to know if sufficient people are coming to change the plan on time if not.
I also often need to make bookings and reservations in restaurants etc, and it is annoying to have to contact companies and add 1 or more persons every now and then.

About myself:
My name is Djamilla, I am half Dutch half Algerian and I live in Gouda. I am an energic and active 'bon vivant' and I am fond of both nature and the outdoors, as well as culture. I am especially interested in art, history, philosophy and literature. I enjoy travelling and discovering other countries, and all kind of adventures. I am also fond of animals, especially cats, and I love meeting animals during hikes and cycling trips.
In short, I like all the good life things and I am a foodie as well, like to enjoy good healthy food and drinks during activities.
I speak Dutch, French (mother tongue), English, Spanish and Arabic, and I like to practice and exchange languages during different activities :-)
I have 15 years experience in organizing hikes, cycle and other events/trips and guiding groups, and I know a lot of nice places where to go in the Netherlands and also firther away. It is a pleasure to inspire people, provide a good experience and show them around to different beautiful places in my country.
