Est. 2024
Chilled Out Meetups is one of Leeds biggest groups organising social events for 18 to 38 year olds. First time here? See information for new members by clicking this link.
Our events include an organised walk every other week (over summer), twice monthly women-only events and a monthly food and/or hot drinks event. We also run 'one off' events from time to time, and hope to add more types of activities in future.
Are you in charge of a venue or other potential event destination? We'd love to hear from you about working together to put on a Meetup. In return for a space, we can offer a large group of new customers and potentially repeat business in the form of one our regular events. Feel free to send us a message.
ORGANISERS WANTED - Our group is co-owned equally by its organisers. Most decisions are made by organizers giving unanimous approval. If you're interested in running events let us know, no matter what type of event you want to do - remember as an organiser you decide the time, place and activity.
We are fully committed to everyone feeling safe and secure at events so there will be zero tolerance for any harassment, unwanted attention or any other disrespectful behavior. This is a space without any kind of prejudice including racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia etc. and this includes 'jokes' and 'memes', please take it elsewhere. We may organise women-only events - if this is a problem then this isn't the right group for you.
You can make a donation to the group here.
If you treat others with kindness and use some common sense you should get along fine here, but if you'd like to check our rules you can see them here.
Our financials are kept open for public viewing. You can see the ledger here.

See all- Eggscellent Day DrinksThe Social, Leeds
Join us this Easter weekend for day drinks in the heart of Leeds.
Note: Venue to subject to change, so check back here on the day. If you work at a Leeds City Centre venue with space for a decently sized, well behaved group we'd like to hear from you.
We'll start with some drinks and then see where the afternoon takes us. There are plenty of other bars and pubs nearby, as well as places to get food.
New members welcome! If you're feeling nervous or have questions take a look at our new members guide.
If there's anything not answered here or you have any concerns don't hesitate to contact one of the hosts.
****************************
Getting HereLeeds centre is very well connected by busses and trains to the rest of the city and surrounding areas. Easter Saturday is NOT a bank holiday so generally Saturday timetables will apply, but still check your route using a service like Moovit or Google Maps to confirm there aren't any changes.
The only sensible place to park nearby is at one of the various multi-storey car parks, since street parking in Leeds is very rare. They all accept card now, cash can be hit and miss. Obviously, do not drink and drive.
About Chilled Out Meetups
We are run by volunteers and are committed to charging £0 to be in the group or attend events. Running a Meetup group costs a minimum of several hundred pounds per year, so if you can afford it, please become one of our donors by making a contribution of any size on PayPal or BuyMeACoffee.
- Walk, Museum & Coffee (Thackray Medical Museum)Leeds City Square, Leeds
We're doing another museum social, this time to Thackary Museum of Medicine.
We'll meet in City Square as normal then do a walk up to Thackary Medical Museum to learn about the history of medicine from this unique Leeds institution. As before, I have arrange for a group discount, plus at this museum your ticket allows you to come again for 1 year! Finally, we'll hang out at the cafe with a drink and maybe a snack.
Approximate schedule:
12:45 - Meet at City Square (under the horse statue)
13:00 - Walk
14:00 - Museum visit & cafeThis is a paid for attraction. Entry with our group is £9.50 (normally £11.95) with your ticket staying valid for one year. There are additional concessions and free entry if you meet certain criteria, you can see the details here (scroll down to click on Admission prices to see details).
.........................................................................Can I join the group at the museum instead?
Yes that's OK.
Getting here (City Centre)
City Square is right next to the train station and near to all bus connections heading in and out of Leeds. If arriving by car, there are plenty of spaces in the various multi-storey car parks nearby, but keep in mind it usually costs £2/3 per hour. Please set off in plenty of time since we cant wait too long for latecomers - better to get there early and grab a coffee than late and miss the group.
Getting here (Museum)
The museum is adjacent to St James Hospital with very frequent bus services stopping directly outside. The numbers 16, 42, 49, 59 and 50A serve the museum. Use an app like Google Maps or Moovit to see bus stops and times.
There is a small car park in front of the museum which costs £1.50 an hour. Alternatively you can park at the larger St James Hospital multi-storey car park a short walk away. This is a very busy hospital/museum complex with parking in high demand, so make sure to leave plenty of time to find a space.
Walk information
The walk is around 2 miles and shouldn't take longer than 45 minutes. The ground is paved almost all the way there so hiking gear is NOT required, however there may be some uneven ground and steps.
Safety
Thackary Museum of Medicine / St James Hospital is a very busy area with security and CCTV, however the area further out has a certain reputation, so stay within the museum/hospital complex. There is nowhere I could recommend to go for a drink or food after the event locally, I advise catching one of the regular busses directly from the museum back into Leeds after the event which should only take 5-10 minutes.
Bad weather
If heavy rain is forecast this event WILL go ahead but we will meet at museum instead. If light rain is forecast the walk will go ahead anyway, just bring weatherproofs. Please check back here for updates. If you have concerns about weather conditions message the host directly rather than posting about it in the comments/chat.

This charity is dedicated to supporting mental health and well-being—naturally—by providing access to outdoor experiences, mindfulness, and professional coaching. Through time in nature, they help people find clarity, connection, and resilience.
Inspired by her own experience of how hiking can benefit mental health, Laura created this challenge to bring people together, encouraging open conversations and movement. Each month, a new hike provides the opportunity to support one another, challenge yourself, and enjoy the outdoors—all while raising funds to help others access the invaluable support that Mind Over Mountains provides. A reminder that time in nature really can make a difference!
