Take a walk in one of our beautiful countryside areas in the National Landscapes (Chiltern AONB.) Starting at Chorleywood this is a lovely countryside walk in beautiful woodland and valleys going along the River Chess, a famous chalk stream passing through Sarratt Bottom and the Frogmore Nature Reserve. On the way we would have encountered wild flowers, butterflies, red kites and ponies in the fields. Unfortunately, the watercress farm, a sought after stopover for some refreshments is no longer operational. We continue on the historical route to Latimer House (used in WW2 by MI5 and MI6 for interrogating POW's) on top of the valley for some spectacular views and site of the Roman villa and baths across the river below. Descending to the weir and enjoying the scenery from the bridge we pass through more woodland to the 13th century Tudor Chenies Manor (Henry VIII and Elizabeth I were entertained here) and scenic views. On the final leg, we shall visit
the Chorleywood Dell sculptures and the community orchard.
Approx 9 miles - moderate, total ascent 620ft, some hilly sections.
We shall have a short lunch break so pls. bring packed lunch, snacks and water.
