See all- The Front (1976) an online movie discussionLink visible for attendees
This is a film directed by Martin Ritt that I saw when I was in the 4th grade, and don't remember much about the film. On May 1st 2025, I believe this is a film worth giving another look. I have not scheduled an online film discussion in awhile so I want to give it another try. Woody Allen stars as Howard Prince a cashier at a restaurant who signs a writer's script acting as a front. The writer is being blacklisted by the House Un-American Activities Committee so he can not publish his ownwork. The write of this film was Walter Bernstein who was blacklisted in real life. Many people in Hollywood got banned from working in 1953 and had to use "fronts" to put out their work. We will discuss this time period and our current history when discussing this film. Please join in for a 40 minute discussion of The Front. This film is free to watch on you tube or if you prefer you can find it through a paid service without comericals.

- Nothing But A Man (1964) at Cinematheque and Sittoo's after the filmCinémathèque - Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland, OH
I saw the last 1/2 hour of this film late night on TV and I have not seen the whole film. A proud black man and his school-teacher wife face discriminatory challenges in 1960s America. This film takes place in Alabama in the 1960's and what I saw of this film was very impressive. Malclom X was a big fan of this film and it was directed by Michael Roemer. We will meet by the benches where you buy your tickets at Cinematheque before and after the film. Afterwards we will walk over to eat dinner at Sittoo's.
