What we’re about
Please join us for a Close Read of classic short stories from the 19th and 20th century. We take turns reading aloud, pausing every page or so to try to figure out as a group how the story is working so far.
No homework! No need to read the story ahead of time. In fact, in a Close Read, the responses of people who haven’t read ahead are sometimes the most valuable. But this also means:
No spoilers! Don't give away the ending of the story since some of us won't have read it all the way through yet. The point of the discussion during the breaks in the reading is to investigate how the story reveals itself in real time. When we get to the end we can talk about the story's overall effects and conclusions.

When we meet, I will make a list of people who want to read aloud. The first person on the list will read aloud about a page of the story. (I will intrusively beep (?) when I think we're there.) Then we'll pause and discuss what we've read so far. When we're ready, we'll move on to the next reader and the next page.
A Zoom link will appear on the right side of this page after you RSVP.
That link will take you to the meeting. The fee for the meetup is $4.75 (The meetup percentage brings it up to $5 plus change.)
To RSVP, click the red ATTEND ONLINE button and it will take you to PayPal where you can pay with a PayPal account if you have one or with a credit card.
