What we’re about
Join us in person or online for our new book group! This will be a great opportunity for heartfelt, stimulating conversation and for building community. Each month, we will read and discuss a book with some emphasis on what we can learn from the more-than-human world or what we can do to restore right relationship with it. We’re planning to read fiction and nonfiction, perhaps with some poetry thrown in, and books from a breadth of cultures. Choices will reflect diversity in race, ethnicity, gender and gender expression, sexual orientation, and ability.
The group will meet on third Mondays of the month at 6:30pm.
You may attend in person (barring terrible weather) or online.
To attend online by zoom, please register in advance here:

In person gatherings will take place either at Kirkridge’s Turning Point meeting room, 2495 Fox Gap Road, Bangor, PA 18013, or at Casa Colum at Columcille, 2155 Fox Gap Road. We are planning to meet at Kirkridge for even-numbered months and Columcille for odd-numbered months, but you can check Kirkridge social media for details each month.
If you would like to receive monthly emails about the book choice for the next month and the location of the gathering, please email us that request to kirkridge@kirkridge.org.
A freewill donation will be collected at each gathering and split between the two organizations.
Books we are considering for this year include UNDROWNED by Alexis Pauline Gumbs, CLOUD CUCKOO LAND by Anthony Doerr, A PSALM FOR THE WILD BUILT by Becky Chambers, SALVAGE THE BONES by Jessmyn Ward, WE MEASURE THE EARTH WITH OUR BODIES by Tsering Yangzom Lama, EMERGENT STRATEGY by adrienne maree brown, and much more!

Our book discussions have been so sweet and connective these last several months; I’m eager to do it again in November! Join us Monday, November 18, at 6:30pm Eastern for a discussion of The Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson. Publisher’s Weekly says “This heartfelt work of hard science-fiction is a must-read for anyone worried about the future of the planet.”
This month, as we move into the darker part of the year, we’ll gather on Zoom only. To obtain a Zoom link, if you haven’t already, go to this link. The personalized link you receive after registering will be good for all meetings in 2024.
We’ll discuss at the November meeting whether to continue the hybrid format in 2025.
